Question about Franklin 4.0 cu. ft. Refrigerator / Freezer

1 Answer

Left unplug for a year....won't work anymore.

Plugged fridge in after a year of non use and neither the fridge or freezer will get cold. When I turn up and down the temperature gage it sounds like the compressor turns on and off, but it doesn't get cold no matter how high I turn it up. Any thoughts? Help please. Thanks!!!

Freon is low!
If it's and inexpensive small fridge it is not worth repairing.
You can find a brand new one for $99.to 129.

Driping water into food cooling section.

The drain that carries the water from the freezer to the evap tray is plugged and filling the space between fridge and freezer up with water and then soon it won't be cold in the fridge anymore as it will block the flow of air from the fridge to the freezer. Locate the drain in back of the fridge or inside compartment under freezer and unplug. Should actually unplug fridge overnight to let ice melt in between levels.

If the freezer is cold the compressor is Ok. Now if its a two door fridge . Open both the doors while the fridge is On. Press the lower door switch ( the lower light should turn off and you should hear the fan humming sound come on ). While holding the door switch pressed close the freezer door, you should see cold air come out of the slits in the back of the lower compartment. If not icicles have blocked the passages due to the non working of the heating coil. The heating cycle is controlled by the timer switch located near the compressor at the back. Unplug the fridge and remove the timer switch.Note the color of the wires and mark on the old switch. Replace and it will work.Only frost free fridges have heating cycle

Refrigerator not cool, freezer ok

Either the freezer continues to freeze up (most likely due to low refrigerant, due to a leak), or there is an obstruction between the freezer and the refrigerator (refrigerators get their cooling from the freezer).

Given that it works after you defrost it, I'm going with low gas. Call a professional to see if the leak can be fixed. If the unit is more than 10 years old, just get a new one.
