Question about Canon PIXMA iP6700D InkJet Photo Printer

8 Answers

Printer no longer likes anything but "Plain Paper"

For 16 months, this printer produced crisp and natural colors on any print media supported by ist software. After replacing the five color cartridges yesterday, and running the test page, nozzle check and printhead alignment, the colors on glossy and matte paper with those paper settings are blueish and greenish, even with some streaks. Printing on the same glossy and matte paper used in the past, only the "plain paper" setting produces the colors as present on the photo.
Updating the printer driver did not produce an improvement. Any suggestion other than buying a new photo printer?

Thanks for your suggestion. However, I do not print from a memory card - all my printing is done from pictures/documents in the PC. Any photos from my digital cameras are first downloaded on my photo harddrive - prior to editing etc, and printing. Changing the settings as you recommended only affects pictures from the memory card - not what originates from the PD. Or do I miss something?

The replacements (ink and the different papers) are the same as what I used ever since this printer was purchased - it worked, producing the expected results. The fact that the printer uses the various inks to its satisfaction if "Plain Paper" is selected as the print media seems to indicate that neither ink nor paper used is the cause. It prints on anything as long as the "Plain Paper" setting is selected.

pls read the additional comments made under "My Premium Problems". It has since been confirmed that an internal hardware problem caused the symptoms. Any other suggestions?

Every thing is proper .your printer is perfectly ok.your new cartridges which you have installed they are also ok.its your past and printer settings for printing are also ok.its only the problem of weak head nozzles.they can be cleared by giving the --clean the ink cartridges-- option from your pc.till the problem is not solved.but that will use very much ink of your cartridges.and make the cartridges near to empty.so the cartridge head of your printer should be removed from your printer and the head should be cleaned internally .by the moist tissue.90% it will help you to get the proper print outs.and the remaining 10% if the head is blocked with the thick ink which you were using from last many months.this should be cleaned by the proper technician .as he would also open the cartridge head part by part.and clean the head manualy.

pls do rate the solution

thanks.

That's an ink problem. You'll just need to use original ink cartridges. Generic cartridges wont suffice your printing quality like before

Have you received any updates when the problem occurred. Sometimes updates mess with drivers, so if this is the case try a system restore right before the problem occurred and see if this helps. It sounds like a driver problem because the printer reacts differently to the different paper used. Also the paper sensor could be bad.

check the clean the ink collector if its filled the sensor may be clogged effecting the print quality .Open the cover and wait for ink carriage to center
    Pull out power cord
    Push carriage to the left
Use paper towel wipe purge unit a lot of times (press down to soak paper towel with ink). Repeat this until the paper towel is relatively clear.
Use diluted napisan (oxygen-based cleaning agent in the ratio of 1:3 with powder:water) and soaked paper towel
Repeat this with wet paper towel until purge unit is near-white.
Pull and push clear plastic wiper (north of purge unit) and wipe it down
Slide carriage back to original position
Removed Print head cartridge and wiped out excess ink stuck on bottom. check for possible improvement in the print quality

My printer has a problem picking up the paper and moving through the rollers in the back.

Paper does not feed

into the machine.

• Remove any obstructions from inside the

machine.

• Paper has not been loaded correctly. Remove

paper from the tray and reload it correctly.

• There is too much paper in the tray. Remove

excess paper from the tray.

• The paper is too thick. Use only paper that

meets the specifications required by the

machine.

SELECTING PRINT MEDIA

You can print on a variety of print media, such as plain paper, envelopes,

labels, and transparencies. Always use print media that meet the guidelines

for use with your machine. Print media that does not meet the guidelines

outlined in this user's guide may cause the following problems:

• Poor print quality

• Increased paper jams

• Premature wear on the machine.

Properties, such as weight, composition, grain, and moisture content, are

important factors that affect the machine's performance and the output

quality. When you choose print materials, consider the following:

• The type, size and weight of the print media for your machine are

described later in this section.

• Desired outcome: The print media you choose should be appropriate for

your project.

• Brightness: Some print media are whiter than others and produce

sharper, more vibrant images.

• Surface smoothness: The smoothness of the print media affects how

crisp the printing looks on the paper.

• Some print media may meet all of the guidelines in this section and

still not produce satisfactory results. This may be the result of

improper handling, unacceptable temperature and humidity levels,

or other variables over which Samsung has no control.

• Before purchasing large quantities of print media, ensure that it

meets the requirements specified in this user's guide.

Using print media that does not meet these specifications may cause

problems, requiring repairs. Such repairs are not covered by

Samsung's warranty or service agreements.

Make sure not to use the inkjet photo paper with this machine. It could
cause damage to the machine.

My R1900 is over 1 year old. Profiles are set for Epson glossy and matte paper. Epson ink is used. Colors are now very green when printing to glossy or matte paper. However, if I use the plain paper...

The difference in choosing the paper type will have an impact on how head squirts ink onto the media. For Epson printers, the best choice to fit the color is plain paper. However, to the maximum dpi (best photo or photo rpm), plain paper does not support. This can be overcome by adjusting the color management of the program that we use.Or convert to bitmap all objects (such as Corel Draw), or also in print as bitmap option.

My Brother MFC-3240C printer does not print crisp images. Colors are washed out and lines run though the images. I reinstalled the CD and no luck. Can you tell me what to fix?

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there. Better than throwing the printer.

Good Luck
RK

PRINTING BLACK ONLY

hi. open your printer driver setup...in the maintenance tab click ink cartridge settings...in box select which cartridge to use..black.
in the main tab under media type... select plain paper.
in page setup tab... make sure borderless printing is unchecked.
if you use any paper other than plain or you use borderless printing the color cartridge will be used.
hope this helps you.

Printer print blue instead of black

I have the same problem with my ip 5200, when printing a document in plain black.. I spoke to canon support and they suggested to save the .doc document as a txt file before printing. It works. Not too sure if this uses any colour ink to produce the black.

You can also set the printer on grayscale. However, the printer uses the colour ink to produce black.... hence printing in black & white becomes rather expensive.

If anyone has drivers to fix this problem please let me know...
