I have a side by side model 106.56789603. freezer side is extremely cold. ice cream is a brick. fridge side is nothing. i find when i leave the freezer door open even a crack it starts to cool in the fridge side. any help would be great. thanks in advance.

If the cold control is not adjusting the temp when you move it, that can be part of the problem.

Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

you moved it and it got upset about it?
but some freezers need to be dead upright
or,,,its the darn thermostat's there playing you up like mad if you cant control them there on there way out
best bet is have new ones fitted or just dump it all together,,after all think of how much that floor is worth? and how much ice cream do you need????

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

Icecream is a tough call. Some brands have to many artaficial ingredients and that doesnt get solid. What temps are you getting in the freezer? Is everything else frozen solid?

I turned the power off on the wall and when i turned it back on which was straight away it shown -3 for freezer and 16 for fridge... I then noticed the ice cream in freezer very watery, however ice in freezer still frozen? i pressed the quick freeze button which eventually the temperature came back up but i keep getting the exact same problem... You did all the right things!!

But this sounds like a bad thermostat.
or a bad control switch.

Unfortunately it sounds like you may need service to do an hands on diagnoses and replacement of one of these parts I listed here!

Check to see if the fan motor in the freezer is running. Most likely it is not circulating the cold air Also make sure the defrost drain line is clear and has drained out. A frozen sheet of ice will restrict airflow also

between the door and freezer is very hot, and the refrigerator is not that cold and the freezing is freezing but not that well, ice cream is soft but meat freeze and ice is not melting. Also behind the fridge at the bottom is very hot.
