I've had my compaq presario cq61 for about 2-3 years. A while back it would occasionally have a kind of shaky/blinky screen but just in the past week it's like the screen has stopped working.

The problem may be due the graphics card or data cable or backlighting.

The data cable can be severed over time though opening and closing the display. This can be replaced.
The backlighting/inverter dies, some-times the windows desktop screen can be seen if one looks carefully. This can also be replaced.

Try connect your notebook to another computer's monitor via VGA or HDMI out.

If this works then the problem lies with your LCD screen.

Take care!

Screen shaky moving screen sometimes helps

I had the same issue. I completely took the laptop apart blew all the dust out of it and made sure all of the plugs/screws that connect and hold the screen inplace were connected. There are Two push-pin style plugs (single wire) that connect to a small board. Make sure they are completely connected

My screen is shaky and cloudy

Hi Yugtob,

Seems like you're having problem with the display of your computer. There are some reasons why your system displays shaky and cloudy screen. Sometimes it caused by a corrupted video driver or system has a faulty screen (hardware failure). Going to the bios and installing the latest driver are basic diagnostics that you can apply to check if this is a software or hardware problem.

Try to replicate the issue by going to the bios
1. Turn off the computer.
2. Boot the computer then start tapping the F2 key.
3. Inside the bios please observe the display if it's still shaky or cloudy.
--> If it has the same issue, system has a faulty screen and needs to be fixed and replaced.
--> If no issue, just reinstall the video driver.

How to reinstall the video driver.
1. Download the driver here:

2. Go to the video section. Then select the operating system that corresponds to your computer.

3. Save the .exe file to your desktop.

4. Install the driver then restart the computer.

--> if you're still encountering the same issue try to perform OKR to set the computer back to the default factoring setting.

My screen is shaky and has a green shaded area at the bottom. What is the problem and solution.

One way to isolate the problem is to plug a monitor into the VGA or DVI slot on the machine and see if you are having the same shaky screen and shaded green area at the bottom.
If everything works alright you can be pretty sure that the LCD display on the laptop needs replacing. If it is still under warranty, you can get this done for free. If not you will just have to incur the expense to replace it. Before you do all that however, make sure you contact your retailer or the laptop's website to find instructions on opening the laptop etc.
Hope this helped...

Flickering and Shaky Screen

The LCD backlight is burning out or the LCD inverter board that controls it is going bad. Backlights are cheap. Must take apart LCD screen assembly. Inverter is a bit more expensive. Definitely fixable.

Screen hinge too loose

a the base of the screen you may see some scews that cover access panels, open them up and you can tighten the little nut that tensions the hinge. I had a laptop that was shaky and I tightened the hinges and it was OK after that.
