Same issue... I connected a spare unit and the same thing happened... Leads me to believe it's in the wiring harness. I'm only connecting power so that narrows it down. I have a sharp bend which may be an issue... I'll keep trying...

I had this problem and I contacted Garmin. It is due to the WAAS. You can do one of two things: 1) Purchase thier over priced cables so you can attach the unit to your PC and downlowd the updates, or 2) Turn it on, hit menu, disable WAAS. Now it works.

Try updating the software. The new WAAS signal causes some Garmin units to "go stupid" if the unit has old software.

I had the same problem so I replaced my 152 with a spare unit. It did the same thing. This led to believe it was the cable. I removed a few kinks and a bend at the unit; and it seems to be fine. Seems too simple and the bends were not that severe, but it is working (for now).

I have 5 white dotted lines running horizontally across my nuvi1490lmt. Does anybody know why this would be?

Yes, this is caused by a defective LCD display, There is nothing that you can do to make them go away. It is caused by a defective transistor in the LCD display logic that is either stuck on or off. The transistor controls a single horizontal line across the screen. The only way to fix this problem is to replace the display.

Two horizontal white lines on top of display and one yellow line vertical trough display

Any lines on the screen that are not supposed to be there is an indication of a defective LCD display.

My 3 year old Garmin Etrex Vista just started displaying horizontal lines across the entire display. Any suggestions?

Try updating the unit's software via the Garmin.com website. This may fix it as there was a satellite launched which was causing problems with some Garmin units.

Garmin GPS-V freezes up

The update from Garmin seems to have cured the problem!! All I did was the reload.

Thanks velomaster!

I've had my Garmin GPS V for almost four years and loved it ... until the dreaded "black line" showed up. I considered replacing the unit but couldn't find anything that would give me the features the GPS V gave me (elevation, ground speed, grade change) and I didn't need a color screen display as an alternative. I'd even bid on a few replacement units on ebay. I was just about ready to bite the bullet, send it in to Garmin and swallow the $125 rebuilt charge when I ran across this thread. After the update it hasn't locked up and as a bonus I have more detail than I had before!

If you have a GPS V you really do need to do this.

Display problem

Have you tried resetting the unit? It sounds like you may have a problem that Garmin needs to address. I would try to reset it first, then make sure you have the latest firmware loaded on the unit. If you still have the problem, it may have to be sent to Garmin for repair.
