I'm not too familiar with the later model bikes but if I were getting a clicking noise under the seat and the bike was not starting, I'd investigate the source of the noise. It's possible that it is a starter relay that engages the solenoid that is an integral part of the starter. Look at the starter from the right hand side of your bike. You'll see a single small wire that connects to the end of the starter just above the end plate of the solenoid. Disconnect this wire and connect a test light or volt meter to the wire. Turn on your ignition switch and press the start button. You should hear the click under the seat and see voltage at the end of that wire. If not, replace the relay, a plastic cube about an inch in dimension.

Good Luck

I have a 2006 street glide, I can start it by grounding out the starter, new battery, new relays, new fuse. It makes a click at the relay when I push the starter button any ideas? Getting frustrated

What would you ground out on the starter?? Are you saying that the ground is poor and so you run a cable or such from the starter case to a known good ground and then it operates OR are you saying that you bypass the starter circuit and provide power directly to the starter and if so where do you supply it, to the battery terminal on the solenoid or to the starter side post of the solenoid.
New stuff does not matter unless it works. Do you hear the starter relay click when you hit the starter button and/or do you hear the solenoid click. If you hear the solenoid click you know everything up to that point is good. Then you have to determine if the solenoid contacts are getting current through to the starter windings. If you can spin up the starter by shorting directly to the starter side of the solenoid and the solenoid is clicking not rattling then the solenoid internal contacts are bad. If the solenoid just rattles the battery is weak or there is resistance stopping adequate voltage and current from getting to it.

Intermittily my 08 stree glide starter acks like it dont have enough power to start my bike

Usually, a series of rapid clicks indicates a low battery, or bad connection somewhere.

A bad starter relay gives a single, loud click.

Battery is charged, Starter Whines and is turning but bike won't fire off, 2009 Street Glide

is your engine turning over, if it is, pull your spark plugs and clean them. this happens on my 98 Heritage Softail Classic. It sounds funny but from long warm ups with choke pulled they get carbon build up and this keeps the plug from firing. If your motor is not turning over then you Bendix gear is out on your starter.

Rebuilding the solenoid. Is it difficult?

The only thing you can do to the solenoid on the newer bikes (1989 and later) is to replace the large copper contacts inside the solenoid. Usually you can do this without taking the starter off on most models. Disconnect the negative battery cable and take the three small 3mm bolts out of the back of the starter. Remove the plate. Behind the plate is a plunger and a spring. Take these out. Look into the starter solenoid and you can see the two large copper contacts. You'll have to take the nuts of the battery cables on the start that come from the battery and to the start motor. They are 14mm nuts (Japanese made starter). If you can get to those without taking the exhaust off, it's easy to replace the contacts. If you can't get to it because of the exhaust system or something else, it could be a pretty good job.

Bike clicking when I try to start. Won't start at all?

Usually this is caused by a bad battery or bad connection at the battery. Either way, take the battery out of the bike and take it somewhere that can run a "load test" on the battery to see if it's good. If it's good, you may have a problem in the solenoid section of the starter. The large copper contacts in the solenoid get burned after many starts and need to be replaced. Take the plate off the backside of the starter that is held on by three small 3mm screws. Remove the plate and pull the solenoid plunger and spring out. Look at the two large contacts inside the solenoid. Do they look like they are badly burned and not smooth on the surface? If so, they may need replacing. Don't forget that one of the contacts is still "HOT" as it's still connected to the battery. Before working in the solenoid, disconnect the battery.
