Re: Machine will not spin
The lack of spin could be caused by a safety switch that has failed; all machines are equipped to prevent spin if the switch is not activated, normally by a closed lid or door.
If the switch fails (not uncommon) the machine thinks the lid/door is open.
The location of the switch varies widely but is always activated by the closure of the hatch.

You very well could have a broken belt. Sounds like just your pulley is spinning but not the belt. You will have to remove the rear access panel and take a look. If belt is still intact, make sure tub and bearigs are not frozen up. Make sure motor pulley spins. You can check power to the motor with a voltmeter.
It sounds like it needs new carbons fitting in the motor.
It is a fairly straightforward repair.
Remove the top cover, screws at rear, and slide top cover off towards the rear.
The motor is located at the top right right rear, you will see the drive belt.
Slacken the bolt that holds the motor, and push the motor down towards the top of the drum.
You will see the 2 brush holders, they will be either black or white, pull the wires off the holder terminals, and depress the plastic`lug that holds the brushes in place, slide the brushes out of the motor.
fit new genuine Hotpoint carbons, and follow instructions on packaging. Push the leads back on to the carbon terminals.
Tighten up motor, and make sure the belt is reasonably tight.
Test on final spin before you refit top cover.
Plz rate my solution.
The belt is located in the back of the machine
You have to remove the top of the machine and then remove tha back cover. then you can see where the belt is, you will need some tools to replace the belt a socket or wrench us needed to adjust the motor pulley position so that you can get the new belt in place then you need to move it back to tighten the belt so it wont slip. its not a difficult job just make sure its disconnected from the power when you do it
most likely it's either a broken belt, or the motor is going out. to check it you need to take the outside casing off, not sure exactly how to do that on that model. Anyway open it up, check under the drum for a belt, if the belt is in tact than it's the motor, in which case. Personally I wouldn't put in the effor to replace. as to where you can get a belt if it is broken, I don't know that either. Good Luck
