Defy fridge only works on the freezer side. The fridge side is warm! What could be the problem.

The freezer provides the cold air for the fridge via a vent at the back of the fridge. If you have a fridge freezer where the freezer is on top of the fridge, sometimes the vent can get blocked by ice. You would have to remove the food from the freezer and remove the back panel to look. Ice can be removed with a hair dryer or a heat gun.

The other possibility is that the recirculation fan in the fridge has stopped spinning.

Or it needs more gas although this is unlikely.

Issue with Kenmore Refrigerator/Freezer

ok,1st check on fridge side toward upper back of the top and feel for air coming thru, and there is another one down possibly behind crisper .I had this same deal. Had to do total defrost,, put food in cooler,, theres two blower fans in these types of fridges,,one in the bottom back,, and one in the back of the frezzer,, I used an old hair dryer and let it blow warm to top interior of frezzer,, careful not to let any cords hang/drop in any water!!,ok once done dry out as much water as possible, turn fridge on set both controls to 4,when fridge kicks on do the feel test,, you may need to close the frezzer door, air should be felt near top inside of fridge,if so than shut fridge side and feel inside frezzer near bottom and air should be felt,, side-by-side need to circulate air from frezzer to fridge, then back to frezzer

The freezer department is making snow and the vents blocked with ice. now the refrigerator compartment is warm. i have the freezer temp on cold and the refrigerator between normal and colder. what should i...

If the freezer is cold the compressor is Ok. Now if its a two door fridge . Open both the doors while the fridge is On. Press the lower door switch ( the lower light should turn off and you should hear the fan humming sound come on ). While holding the door switch pressed close the freezer door, you should see cold air come out of the slits in the back of the lower compartment. If not icicles have blocked the passages due to the non working of the heating coil. The heating cycle is controlled by the timer switch located near the compressor at the back. Unplug the fridge and remove the timer switch.Note the color of the wires and mark on the old switch. Replace and it will work.Only frost free fridges have heating cycle.

The cold air passage in a modern fridge is made out of thermocole . It will take you more than 24 hours of defrosting to remove the ice. I had to use a hair dryer to melt the ice even after 30 hours. Thermocole is a fantastic insulator. If you want to avoid melting the insulator blow air into the vent from the refrigerator compartment using a vacuum cleaner in blower mode ( reverse mode ). After a few minutes of blowing, hot air will come from the vacuum cleaner which should do the trick

Fridge is warm, was collecting water inside. Freezer is working fine. Increased temp but not responding. It is a bottom freezer model

send the model number off of the fridge,if the freezer is working fine then no air is being blown up to the fridge section, all it does is blow cold air from the freezer to the fridge section so either the door was left open and this is very common with a bottom mount freezer or the evap fan isn't blowing or on some models there's a damper inside the fridge section, the damper door opens and closes to let cold air in,when it reaches temp. the door closes, sometimes the door gets stuck in the closed position or the open position and the fridge freezes or gets warm depending on where the door is.first thing open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not you could have a bad evap. fan motor, next look at the ceiling and on the packages,do you see frozen water droplets,if so the door was left open and the air ducts are froze up from the warm air getting in from the door being open and mixing with the cold air freezes up the air ducts, also stick your hand onto the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's like snow or frost on the inside back wall of the freezer you could have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater, timer or board depending on the model or last a bad damper, when you open the fridge door there are air ducts usually up top and in the middle you should feel cold air blowing in,this is your problem the air isn't making it into the fridge section.if the door was left open, unplug the fridge, remove the food from the freezer and with a hair dryer heat up the back inside wall of the freezer and blow the hot air into the air vent holes in the back wall to melt out the air ducts, keep heating it up until you don't see any more water dripping, you can see the water dripping through the vent holes.so let me know what you find, send the model number and we can go from there.look up near the ceiling in the fridge section on the right hand wall and you should see a tag with the model and serial numbers, send the full model number so i can see what you have in your machine.

I have a Whirlpool Gold refrigerator, model GB9SHDXP, about 2 and a half years old. It has a bottom freezer. Yesterday I noticed that the food in the top part were not as cold as usual. I came back...

ok,when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?all that happens is the freezer gets cold,a fan in the back wall of the freezer turns on and blows cold air up into the fridge section,a thermostat tells it when it's cold enough or it's getting warm then it will blow more air up top,if the freezer is working correctly then either the fan isn't working or the bottom freezer door was left open, warm air got sucked up into the air vents causing water droplets to be formed, then they freeze blocking the air vents with ice and now the cold air can't go into the fridge section.is there any ice on the ceiling of the freezer or frozen water droplets on the bags in the freezer?if so the door was left open.unplug the maction, and with a hair dryer blow the hot air into the holes on the back panel, keep doing this until you don't see any more water draining through the holes, turn it back on and see if the cold air is blowing up into the fridge.if the evap fan motor is bad the part number is W10128551 and it's around 25 to 30 dollars.you must of got the model number off of the book,it's not the full model number, check in the fridge section on the right hand wall near the ceiling and you should see a tag with the number on it.also down at the bottom kickplate, you can remove the kickplate and there should be a tech sheet tucked away in it,read it and it will tell you how to put the machine into defrost mode,if you can do this, instead of unplugging it if you have to melt it out with the hair dryer you can put it into defrost so the heater will come on and this will help you to defrost the vents quicker.let me know what you find and if you need any more help.good luck with your machine

My fridge compartment is warm... frezzer ok, How do I check to see if the fan is operating and how do I check the vents

A refrigerator temperature problem like yours is likely due to one of the following issues. Open the freezer door and listen for the freezer fan, you might have to close the door/light switch to activate the fan. There is a vent at the top of the back wall of freezer, as well as a vent at the top back wall of the fresh food section. Wet your finger and place it in front of either vent and feel for cold air flow. If you dont feel any air flow in the fridge and the freezer fan is running, you will likely have a defrost problem, either the heater, the bi metal t stat, or the defrost control have failed. Any of these will result in frost on freezer back wall. YOu may also have a problem with the damper door in the fridge, again, top back wall, not opening, or on the rare occasion I have seen a slice of wrapped cheese on the floor behind the fresh food crispers covering the warm air return vent to the fridge.

Hi!!

Make sure drain hose is not clogged up. Check evaporator fan, (small fan in freezer compartment). it should come on after door is open a couple of minutes. Feel air vents in fridge side for a stream of cold air, if none or too weak, remove back cover (where fan is) and check for frozen evaporator coil. If evaporator is frozen, air can't circulate thru unit, keeping fridge side from cooling and freezer side below freezing point.

If this is the case, unplugg unit from power outlet, and use a heat gun or hair dryer to melt ice, make sure all vents are clear.

Once the evaporator coil is free of ice, dry freezer, replace back cover and plug unit back on. Check temp. settings, should be about 1/3 of the dial range. If necessary, make additional adjustments every 24 hrs.

Don't forget to rate this post!! Good Luck!!!

My freezer section of an LG frech door is not getting cold enough.

you would have to take the back wall of the freezer of (after it has been running a while) see how much of the evaporator is frosted up if none freon leak or bad compressor if just a little on top then a restriction. if you open it and the whole top above the evap is a huge chunk of ice i would try a dryer filter(its part of the sealed system)
