Gateway M275 Screen Wobbes

My screen will wobble back and forth on the center support. I have removed the hinge cover on top and tightened the 4 screws that are there but no luck. It looks like it is wobbling in the base. How do I tighten the hinge inside the case?

The plastic on both sides of the hinge on the screen frame is cracked. Can the frame be replaced? I tried gluing the plastic which didn't work. Sometimes the screen falls.

I had the same problem. Look on ebay for the swivle hinge base. Should be able to get one for less than 15 dollars shipped. 4 screws on the bottom and one under the bezel above the keyboard holds it in. plus the 2 that hold the metal hinge/wire cover. 3 plugs, ease the wires out of the motherboard. i don't think it is possible to tighten the bushing.

Gateway M275 display scambles

I suspect it may be a problem with the video cable coming from the convertible tablet, up through the hinged support for the LCD screen, AND/OR the screen Inverter.

I would like you to connect a VGA monitor, to the VGA port on the back of the convertible tablet. The VGA monitor will now be an External Monitor.

[ Looking at the rear of the convertible tablet, start at the Left side.
Vent, USB port, Monitor port. The Monitor port is the VGA port ]

The VGA monitor can be a CRT type, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor with a VGA cable.

Notebook OFF, monitor OFF, connect the VGA monitor to the M275's VGA connector. (Port)
Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type, allow it to warm up.

Turn the notebook on.
By the factory default settings, whatever is shown on the convertible tablet's internal monitor, should now be shown on the external monitor.
(VGA monitor)

If not, press, and hold down on the Fn key (On the bottom row of the Keyboard, all the way to the Left), and tap once on the F3 key.
(Top row of Function keys. The F3 key is the Display Toggle-Over Key )

No graphics shown on the external monitor? Hold down on the Fn key again, and tap the F3 key again.
There are at least three options available;

1) Convertible tablet's internal monitor - ONLY
2) Convertible tablet, AND external monitor
3) External monitor - ONLY

If graphics are fine on the external monitor, you have a problem with the video cable, and/or the screen Inverter. At this time we will bypass the LCD screen, and come back to it.

At the bottom/middle of the tablet's LCD screen, is the Hinge. The Hinge Cover is 'T shaped', and has one single Philips screw holding it on.
If you remove the screw, and the Hinge Cover, you will see two wire harnesses.
One Black, the other White.

See that these two cables are plugged in tightly to the connector.

After checking this step come back in a Comment, and state your findings.

Regards,
joecoolvette

How do I fix the top layer of glass on the screen?

The lcd would have to be replaced the glass is part of that. On a normal laptop thats about $150 and up. On yours you will pay more as it includes the digitizer for the pen etc. Figure about $170 and up for used parts. You will probably have to get someone to swap the parts for you so figure on an hours labour (should be less). If you talk to gateway they will smile , call it user abuse, and then ask you to empty your wallet.

The parts can be located by searching for Gateway M275 Tablet Parts using google or bing or any search engine. You should find several sources so you can shop around and get the best deal as far as price and shipping. You are going to have to find a tech to replace it unless you can do it yourself. It really isn;t that hard and involves about 4 screws. The hardest part (seriously) is getting the case split. When your are looking for the parts keep an eye out for instructions. A lot of the parts places will have instructions or videos of how to do the job.

Cooling fan keeps running on m275 gateway laptop

If the fan keeps running constantly, it could be a number of things:

- The interior of your laptop could be dirty or dusty. If you remove the bottom cover and blow some compressed air into the case (when the computer is off and the battery is removed) it should resolve the problem.

- The CPU is overheating. Do you have it overclocked? What do you primarily sit it on when you are using it? You may want to think about getting a cooling pad (either powered or unpowered).

- The fan is dying or dirty, and not spinning as fast as it should. If this is your problem, you'll need to replace the fan, but this is the least likely scenario of the three.

Broken screen hinge/collar

You can purchase replacement hinges and hinge covers here: http://www.mundocorp.com/m275.html They may be a bit of work to replace. But short of replacing the hinge assembly, it doesn't sound like that is going to move.
