Question about Canon PowerShot A70 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Battery Problem My 18-month-old Canon A70 is giving "change the battery pack" message and turning off constantly, even though I have fully charged three different sets of new rechargeable batteries and rotate them as soon as the message comes on. Sometimes with this message I pull out one charged set and put the same back in, and it works fine for quite awhile, then repeats later. I imagine this is a problem in the camera battery power circuit or something. Never happens when plugged into the computer. Any suggestion what to do or where to go?

I cannot get my A70 to recognize ANY batteries - fresh, new AA batteries, freshly recharged AA NiMH batteries. I even bought a new charger! I know this is an older camera, but it has served me well, and I hate to get rid of it because of battery problems. Any suggestions?

I figured out the problem. My AA battery recharger was not making good contact, so although it said the batteries were recharged, this was not the case. After fixing this and getting full recharges, the problem went away.

Mostt batteries have an issue of SHELF LIFE and so if the battery that was given to you was on SHELF for a long time then it can develop BACK EMF and so will not charge to the limit designed. So check the date on the pack and if this is more than 6 months ago , it is better to claim for a refund or replacement. If your camera did not have any other issue this is the only possibility.
The first charge also must be done for 8-15 hours.

Hello there. You may need to replace your battery pack, as leaving it charged for over 4 hours can lead to "overcharging" a condition which can dramatically shorten your battery packs lifespan and charge retention.
Also, be sure to charge your console while the device is turned off. Although you may charge it while it is powered on, it will take longer.
As stated, be sure not to leave the system on charge for more than 5-6 hours, as this can damage the battery and is liable to cause battery leakage, burning, or overheating.

Battery life is largely dependent on the game being played - some games can give you up to 10 hours of battery life, though the real-world estimate is really more like 5-7 hours of constant use before you'll need to recharge.

I hope this helps you. -

CAMERA MESSAGE SD790 IS

Well, I haven't used a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS Digital Camera before, but I want to suggest this: before you start thinking of putting your camera apart, try to clean the battery terminals and the battery contacts of the camera with clean white paper, then reinsert the pack. Please be very careful when doing this so that you do not break or bend the contacts or terminals; they are usually delicate material.

Canon IXUS 100is battery pack problem.

Happened the same with mine. At the beginning I tough it was related with the sd card as when I removed the card the camera would turn ON. Later on I found it to be related with the camera contacts. After cleaning the battery contacts with alcohol and a cotton swab it started to work fine. SOLUTION: Clean battery gold contacts.

I have a Canon SD1000 battery pack issue.

Hello,
I have a Canondigital ixusi which had the same problem and I purchased three new batteries, but found that all of them showed the "replace battery pack" message when fully charged. I have solved this problem by cleaning all the terminals on the batteries and in the camera very thoroughly with alcohol and Q-tips. Even though the terminals look completely clean, there must be a slight film which is preventing good contact. The contacts in the camera are spring loaded and I suspect they are not making a very good conection to the battery so any contamination is making a high resistance to the flow of electricity. Hope this helps - it worked for me.

Canon SD950 IS malfunctioning - please advise

I have vertical bars apperaing on my Olympus SP-560,
In my case I know it has been caused by damp on the light sensor behind the lens, which once dried was better. But ideally I need to remove the lens to clean the sensor. Which I've still yet to work how it is done.
