I have a Panasonic tv model TH 42PZ80B; a Panasinic Blu-Ray dvd model DMP-BD50; a sky box (not as yet HD) and a Sony video SLV-SE 830G. I have a Satellite dish and a normal TV aerial. In the loft I have a...

You need to try and isolate the piece of equipment which is causing the problem.

You've already tried the aerial lead direct to the TV and this is OK.

Disconnect all scart leads and try the RF on its own.

Try the Aerial lead to video, then video to TV.

Try aerial direct to Sky box, then to TV.

Try just connecting the RF out from the Sky box to the TV (no aerial input), can you tune into a good channel 68 picture from the Sky box.

Then Try the VCR to the Sky box (no aerial input), see if you can tune into the VCR and Sky channel.
Hope that helps.......

Sky+hd box isn't getting a satellite signal

have you checked the cables to the lmb ( dish ).... or take the dish cables out of the back of the sky box. wet your finger and put finger on to the centre and out part of the cable connector that some times works. faling that the sky box may need a factory rest or is damaged or the lmb has gone.

My stiletto does not get a signal. It comes in for up to 10 seconds at a time and then nothing, searching. I walked to the top of San Bruno Mountain overlooking San Francisco with no improvement in...

Does it get a solid signal when its in a docking station? Its likely that the internal antenna on the unit is disconnected. Antenna headphones would correct the issue, though they are not very durable at all. I know that our repair guy is able to fix the internal antenna, but I would ensure that is the issue first. Try plugging it into a home dock, car kit, or boombox to see if it works through one of those antennas.

Picture keeps freezing

Hi.

Problem has been posted in Toys. If problem is referring to a sky box try posting in DVD. If picture is freezing check cables and call Sky, asking them to check if the problem depends on satellite signal or on receiver box.

Regards.

Sky is saying there is no signal. Turn box off and on again. I have done this but still get no signal. I have freeview only channels on my sky box

Hi,

Firstly, you don't get Freeview through your Sky box. If you are watching Freeview channels then it's from an aerial connection. If you are getting a 'No signal' message on your TV, the first things to check are:

1. Check that you have selected the correct input source on your TV. If you are using a 'co-ax' connection (standard aerial cable) you will have to select this manually from the remote. If you are using a SCART connection, all you need to do is turn the Sky box off and back on - but you've done this already.
2. Check the connection from your Sky box to your TV - disconnect it, check that the cable and connectors aren't damaged then re-connect it.
3. Check the cable between the dish and the Sky box. Unplug this from the Sky box and reconnect it.
4. Check that your viewing card is correctly inserted. This is unlikely to be the problem as it doesn't usually result in a 'no signal' message, but remove it and re-insert it anyway.

Finally, it's very windy tonight and this can affect the Sky signal if your Sky dish isn't properly secured. It's possible that your dish has been moved by the wind and is no longer aligned with the satellite. If none of the above work, you should inspect the dish as soon as conditions are safe enough to do so. If you can move it by hand, it can probably be moved by the wind.

Try these tests and post back and I will try to assist further if the problem has not been resolved.

Regards,
BElectric

Can record Sky programmes but not view live.

You must connect up the TV to the SKY box, via Audio Visual cables too, in order to watch, recorded programs. You need to hook, up, Component, HDMI, or Composite, You select it by an EXTERNAL channel.
Connect the cable running from the wall into the "In" port on the Sky Box HD receiver. This cable brings in the signal to your receiver. Make sure the cable is securely fastened to the receiver, otherwise you might experience image and audio issues.
Attach an HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the Sky Box HDTV receiver. The HDMI is a single cable that provides both HD audio and video signals.
Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into an available HDMI port on the HDTV.
Power on the HDTV and the Sky Box HDTV receiver. Press the "HDMI" button on the TV's remote control. This will display the cable contents of the HD receiver onto the television.

Just opened up a new magellan roadmate 1412 and can't get a satelite signal.

satellite acquisition takes several minutes with good line of sight to the sky, assuming the unit dose see at least 1 satellite in the sky this would mean theirs issues with the internal antenna or the receiver is malfunctioning, when you said opened up the new unit i assume you disconnected the small connectors, maybe one is not fully conencted or the wire became disconnected during reasembly. theirs alsoa chance the unit has to be reset.

I recently bought a Garmin 200W Widescreen satnav. I have tried and found a satelite but each time when I take back indoors I loose it, is there anyway to lock the signal in after acquiring.

Hello snippey,

Global Positioning System satellites transmit radio signals which are received by your GPS receiver unit. Your GPS receiver uses these signals to calculate its current location, speed and altitude.

The GPS is not able to perform these calculations unless it is actually able to receive the radio signals from the satellites. Radio signals can be blocked by obstructions such as tall buildings, heavy foliage, tall hills and mountains, etc. Anything that prevents your GPS receiver from having a clear view of the sky will affect it's operation. This includes attempting to use the unit indoors or inside of a vehicle without an external antenna.

There is no way to "lock" the signals in. The GPS simply must be able to receive the signals and in order to do that it needs to be able to "see" the sky.

Hope this helps,
Ken
