I also just started having this issue today but have owned the same router for over two years now. It is getting very irritating and seems to happen when a lot of data is being sent/received. I have checked the cables/cords including powering down the router but the trouble remains. It is connected to a cable modem and I have a Compaq Presario SR1000T.

I hit the RESET button on my router and now the INTERNET provider says I need to find my maual to re install it. I do not have a manual anymore....

Can you give more information about your internet provider?
Router does not need any information as long as you have an active internet connection. You may have to check connecting your computer first directly to the modem provided by your internet provider. Once you confirm that you have active internet connection disconnect cable from your computer and connect to WAN port on Linksys router. Power on your linksys router. Now you can check connecting your computer to one of the LAN ports on linksys router. you should be on!
The next step would be setting router for security! good luck!

Will not connect to internet

Has it worked in the past, and connected to the internet through the same modem? When I had one of these any time the Internet Connection would hickup I'd have to restart everything in the right sequence. As long as your connections are correct, shut down the Linksys router, by removing the power cord, as well as shutting down your modem. Then restart your modem first and wait until it's all set and ready to go. Then restart your Linksys afterwards so it can find the proper IP Address assigned to your modem. It should connect to the Internet, but you always have to restart the modem first while the Linksys is still off. Also make sure the power is disconnected from your Linksys for at least 30 seconds before powering it back up.

How to configure Linksys WRT54G router with BSNL's C2110 modem?

The Linksys WRT54G broadband router is one of the most popular consumer routers there are. Linksys makes configuring your router easy. This article will walk you through the initial setup options for this particular model, but many of the basics we talk about here can be applied to any router setup. Setting up the router consists of four basic steps, such as Testing your Internet connection, connecting your hardware, setting up the connection and power cycling the entire network. Aside, from setup, we'll also describe some security concerns so you can make an educated decision on the administration of your home network.
Test Your Internet Connection First While this seems like something you would not need to be, make sure your Internet connection actually works. If you haven't already, plug the cable modem directly into the back of the computer and make sure you can get onto the internet. You may need to reboot the machine first.
Connect The Modem and Router to the PC Now that we have confirmed the Internet connection works, the next step is to connect the modem to the router and the router to the PC. The modem will attach to the router's Internet Port. You will then attach the router to the PC via any of the four Ethernet ports in the rear. Check the LED lights in the front of the router to confirm all of the connections are properly made. The Power, WLAN, Ethernet Port to PC and the Internet should all be lit.
Configure The Linksys WRT54G Settings With all connection made, you will now need to login to the router via your web browser. Type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. You should see the login screen. Leave the username blank and type admin as the password and hit enter.
You will now need to configure the router's connection to the Internet. Under the Setup / Basic Setup section, make sure the router is setup to Automatic Configuration - DHCP. This allows the router to receive an IP address from your Internet Service Provider.
Next, go to the MAC Address Clone tab in the same area and enable Mac Address Cloning. This allows the router to clone your PCs MAC address, as the ISP may require this.
Power Cycle the Router and Modem Now that everything is configured, you'll want to power cycle everything. This is done to make sure everything has an IP address from the modem all the way through to the PC. To power cycle, shutdown everything. Unplug the modem and router power source. Shutdown the computer. Plug in the modem and wait for all green lights. Next, plug in the router and wait a few minutes until its lights are also green. Lastly, boot up the PC. You should have an Internet connection.
Change the Linksys WRT54G Router Password You noticed when setting up the router, that there was a default username of nothing and a password of "admin." Be sure to log back into the router once everything is running properly and type in a username and change the password. If you don't, a hacker that sees you have a WRT54G router could login to the router with the default credentials.

Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router Issue Allows 1 Computer at a time

Your router my not be DCHP enabled or it might not be assigning the IP addresses either.

I would do a reset and start all over with your security settings and see if that works. Worst case scenario you could always turn security off when your parents or others are there.

My wlan light keep going on and off on my wrt54g

Also check if the power light on your router is blinking. If it is blinking, that's an indication of hardware failure. To revive it, do a hard reset. Press and hold the power button of the router for 30 seconds then unplug the power. Wait for 30 seconds again before you plug it back in.

Computers connected wirelessly lose internet connectivity

That can be a sign that the router is going out. Try updating the firmware and see if this helps. Sometimes it is on your providers end but they will always tell you to replace the router first.
You will also have to check your cabling as that will be one of the things they suggest you do.
I would go to Walmart and get another cheap Linksys router and setup it up and if it still does it call your provider. You can always take it back and get a refund or save it for when your router does go out.

How to connect my dsl 2210 modem to my WRT54G router

Power down the modem, pc and router. connect a CAT 5 network jumper (or "patch") cable from the output of the DSL modem to the WAN port of the Router. The other jacks (or "ports") are numbered 1,2,3 & 4 and are used to connect any combination of up to 4 devices such as switches, computers and other "networkable" products with CAT 5 cables.

Connect a computer's network port to any one of the NUMBERED ports at the rear of the router. Power the router and the PC only at this time. Log on to the router's SETUP page by browsing to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. When prompted for a username an password, leave the username blank and password "admin" (without the quotation marks). Configure the router as needed by your internet service provider (or "ISP"). If unsure what these settings may be, contact the ISP's customer or technical support department. Once set as determined by your ISP, shut everything down and power up the modem, router and PC in that order - allow 20 to 30 seconds for each to fully start before starting the next device.

If unable to access the set up page of the router, then press and hold the reset button on the back for 30 seconds while powered on. This restores the factory default configuration and should be compatible just about all computers - unless a static address has been entered for the computer's network card.

Hi,

Other than the laptop and the LinkSys WRT54G, you would need an active account/subscription with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) who then will provide you with a modem of sort.

On initial setup, connect your modem to your laptop and verify that you can connect to the Internet. Thereafter run the CD installer that came with the LinkSys before connecting/powering the LinkSys. Follow on screen instruction. At one point in the installation, you would be asked to disconnect the modem, connect the router and connect the modem to the router.

Should for some reason the above instruction will not address your concern, pls post back.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
