On left hand side of unit there is an Output control pin/switch it is probably set on BARS - switch it to CAM and that will solve your challenge. Unbelievabel but Canon tech support didn't know that..at least the lame rep I got on the phone.

Change the canon camera video recording setting bw to colors

This might be a good time to read the manual in book form or in pdf form, but I believe it is in the section "Changing the tone of an image".

Lcd screen is not showing an image on my Canon XH A1, and there is no image when I look through the eye hole either.

The unit is powering up, Is it still recording video? Most likely you will need to send it in for service.
Keep me updated,

Xh 1s capturing video

Jack you posted in the wrong category. If you post in Canon video you'll have better luck or try the DVX User forums for that model:

Patterns and untrue color on photos

When downloaded to your computer, are the photos also distorted? If so, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Video playing in fast forward with no sound

This is a really simple problem and easy to solve.  Unfortunately the videos you've recorded cannot be changed back because they have been recorded in Time Lapse mode.
With the camera switched on in Video Mode turn the control dial on the back (this is the dial to the right of the LCD screen).  This will change the settings from TIME LAPSE to STANDARD.  There are actually 6 different modes but the best one for normal videos is STANDARD.  There is a HIGH RESOLUTION setting,  however these record fewer frames per second (fps) so whilst the quality is better per frame,  there are half the amount of fps so the the movie will look at bit jerky.
It's really easy to accidentally twist the dial when holding the camera,  so always check the icon in the top right of the LCD before recording to make sure its just a yellow camera in a yellow square.
This should be problem solved for all future recording.

What is the type of LCD monitor display?

The DiMAGE A1 has a 46mm (1.8 inch) low-temperature polysilicon TFT color LCD Monitor, which displays approximately 118,000 pixels. This LCD monitor is tiltable (20 deg. downward and 90 deg. upward).
