Home warranty company saying JennAir M166 built in microwave isn't a true built in

Our Jenn Air microwave model M166 needs to be repaired. The food isn't heating evenly. Our home warranty company says our policy covers built in microwaves but says that our microwave is not a built in. I found the owner's manual that the previous homeowners left which reads...."this built in microwave oven......" I faxed this to the customer service rep for our home warranty and he is saying that our microwave is not a TRUE built in microwave and is therefore not covered under our policy. Can any of you tech people tell me what the difference is between a built in and a true built in? I am soooo mad!

Thank you for your reply. I had forwarded them a copy showing the phrase..."this built in microwave ....." They said that the page I forwarded them also shows a trim kit. They are trying to say that it is a counter top becuase of a trim kit option. Does a trim kit on a 12 year old microwave mean it's a counter top microwave? They also tried to say that built in microwaves have pull down doors like an oven. Maybe the new models do. Did most built in microwave ovens 12 years ago have this? They said they called Jenn Air but Jenn Air could not positively say that my microwave was a built in. They don't have information on this model that far back. The final e-mail from the home warrenty people said due to the width of my microwave that I had provided, my microwave is not a built in. I think this young person is using today's built in microwave standards to justify whether or not my microwave in a built in. Help!

Bottom line is... Home warranty companies will do anything possible to wriggle out of paying for something. (Especially if it's American Home Shield).

I'd suggest offering to fax / email photos and the front cover of your owners manual. Your model is 100% considered a built in unit and they are lying to you and trying to cheat you if they say otherwise.

That's all a load of hooey. There's no "built in" microwaves made with pull down doors.
It's all typical home warranty bullying and delaying in order to wear you down so they won't have to pay for anything. The width argument is also a load of **** - they're basing that on over the range models units which typically have a standard width of 30 inches and are completely different than your unit.

Our company sold these units back in the 80's and early 90's and I can say without question that they were considered built in units.

If there's any consolation to all the hassle, I think your symptom of uneven heating is caused by a broken belt which is an easy fix. There is a metal fan blade in the top that rotates to distribute the microwave pattern evenly. This fan is driven by a rubber belt which after 12 years has most likely deteriorated and broken. It still requires removing the unit to service it, but I don't think you're looking at much expense.

Your situation is typical and yet another reason to ditch a home warranty.

Jennair JMV8208BCS No instructions in box

Hello. the installation of wall mounting bracket is not too difficult. you will need a drill, some bits, and a scrrewdriver. you will also need an electrical outlet at that spot to plug in the microwave.

Jennair makes a bracket kit for each microwave. Call any jennair dealer, have your model # handy and they will get you the bracket you need, also ask specifically for the instructions.

Need to replace JMC7000 Microwave

Yours will likely have a bad high voltage diode, transformer or magnetron, all of which are covered under the extended parts warranty for five years from the date of purchase!

All you have to pay is labor, unless it's less than the two-year full warranty, then there's no charge.

That's a really great warranty!

It's on the back page of the owner's manual.

If you opt for replacement, Jenn-Air Customer Care can tell you which model would be a "drop-in" replacement.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

My jenn-air microwave makes a LOUD humming noise

More than likely the power inverter board has been damaged and it would be best to stop using it immediately.

Jenn-air products are very good quality and quite expensive to replace. I would contact Jenn-air service and have a service tech dispatched to determine the exact problem and the cost to repair it. Jenn-air stands behind their product 100% and should be able to repair the unit for you.
