I'm having the same issue. It just started happening and I'm not sure if the old ink catridge was completely used up but I replaced it with a new one and the orange light is still blinking. Please help.

Orange Light Blinking. Is it because I used 're-fills'?

  • ribilly Apr 04, 2009

I also have the same problem with the blinking orange low ink light. I have replaced both the color and the black cartriges and the light stays on and I can not print anything, not even a test page.

  • whitecho Apr 14, 2009

When I replaced the cartridge, as I had done many, many times before, the orange light did not stop blinking, therefore the printer thinks it is out of ink. I have tried old cartridges and other, new cartridges, to no avail.

I don't want to have to buy another printer, as this one has been trusty and all I've needed for many years!
    Thank you...

Orange light blinking, have replaced both cartidges from Office Depot brand. Printer sounds like cartridge bar wants to move, but no print action.

  • harris0669 Apr 23, 2009

I have experienced the same problems as listed in the included entries; after replacing the black ink cartridge, the orange ink indicator light continues to blink and I am unable to print anything.

SOURCE: Arrow light and Power light keep blinking

take out all the cartridges and the papers..
unplugg the power cable from the printer..
manually slide the carriage from left to right and vice versa and roll the rollers in upward direction from the back after opening the back door..
if doesnt slide or roll..press & hold the power button for 60 seconds and then try again..
clean the inner area of the cartridge slot and the copper contacts of the cartridge with a soft lint-free cloth..
close the back door...
dont put the cartridges..
connect the power cable and power on the printer...
Lights will blink..
Insert one cartridge in the respective slot and close the cartridge door and check if any light blinks..
then remove the cartridge and insert another one and check the same thing..
If light blinks..it will mean the respective cartridge is not good and replace it--

SOURCE: hp 3180 print cartridge light blinking

hi,

is the ink cartridge you replaced hp brand or did you refill it this is an incompatibility code from the software. some brands and cartridges are not fully compatible and creates an e code error code. if it is hp brand it is likely a defective sensor chip in the ink cartridge. i would for best assurance return the cartridge for a different one and then recheck. if niot you may need to restore your software or reinstall it most of the time this will fix the problem.

hope this helps..happy computing!

SOURCE: inserted new cartridges..orange light still on

Try re-seating the ink cartridges. A lot of times, the electrical contacts on HP's ink cartridges do not make a solid connection.

SOURCE: will not print

“All lights blinking and printer not responding” is indicative of serious ink cartridge issue. Usually when this happens the printer fails to goes through the motions of the printing process, kind of stands still with indicator lights just blinking away. This could be as a result of either of these scenarios.
i. Ink cartridge has developed incompatibility or is incompatible
The Solution is to try an older/another cartridge (doesn’t matter if ink is finished. You must replace cartridge one at a time). If lights stop blinking it confirms that your cartridge has become incompatible or developed incompatibility. Also if your printer is the type that can work with only one cartridge, remove one after the other (closing back the lid/cover) to determine which in the set (black or color) has become incompatible. At the instance the incompatible one is removed and you close the lid, the blinking will stop (for printers that can print with one ink cartridge only). Just replace the incompatible one and start printing again. In most cases the issue is always with one cartridge. But if both are affected, you have to replace both. Because of this type of problem, always keep used cartridges somewhere safe; they come in handy for this type of troubleshooting.
ii. The Cartridge electronic panel is dirty
The electronic panel on the cartridge that makes contact with the cartridge carrier inside the printer is dirty and needs cleaning. This electronic panel is front part of the cartridge with copper “dots”.
The Solution is to try to clean this panel with a piece of folded tissue paper soaked in a bit of methylated spirit. Also try to clean the area in the cartridge carrier/holder that makes contact with the cartridge’s electronic panel (Usually this is more difficult). If you cannot reach it with your fingers, use a stick or something with tissue wrapped around it. Allow to dry well and return the cartridges, close the cover. The blinking should stop if the electronic panel is the issue. Once the blinking stops the printer will print.

First off, if you touched the metal contacts on the printer or cartridge, you could damage or leave a film on the contact surface. Take it out of the printer, with a qtip dip in rubbing alcohol, squeeze out access, rub surfaces, air dry, and reinsert again. If still no ink, turn the print end up under the very hot water tap and run for 2 minutes. Dry and replace. It may do the trick.

Hi,my hp 3100 all in 0ne will not print. ican scan but not print

You failed to tell us whether the orange indicator light is blinking. 'usually this scenario causes the orange indicator light to blink continuously. If that is the case, i.e. the orange light is blinking, then it is an ink issue; either the cartridges are bad or their electronic panels are dirty.

Below are the solutions to the two situations
;-

i. Ink cartridge has developed incompatibility or is incompatible

The Solution is to try an older/another cartridge (doesn't matter if ink is finished.

This electronic panel is front part of the cartridge with copper "dots".

The Solution is to try to clean this panel with a piece of folded tissue paper soaked in a bit of methylated spirit. Also try to clean the area in the cartridge carrier/holder that makes contact with the cartridge's electronic panel (Usually this is more difficult). If you cannot reach it with your fingers, use a stick or something with tissue wrapped around it. Allow to dry well and return the cartridges, close the cover. The blinking should stop if the electronic panel is the issue. Once the blinking stops the printer will print.

The refilled ink cartridges do not have the chip which comes charged from the company. It is suggestable if you can spend on the new ink cartridges, do it. or else you can buy from the market compatible ink cartridges which comes with pre charged chip on the cartridge. this chip when comes in contact to the printer carriage assembly where the circuit is located. the printer works fine without any errors
