Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T1 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Black screen when on camera or record mode, the screen is black. It'll take a picture and/or record but all in black. I thought the camera needed charging but that didn't change anything. I tried to view/change all the settings but still nothing. Any solution? Could it be defective? Please advise on how to fix or if it's even possible at this point. Thanks!

Had the same blank/black screen issue on my DSC-T1. Per the link below, Sony walks you through a 3 minute test and if you are experiencing issue as described, they will fix it for FREE until March 31,2009. (Small $15 charge for shipping)

Thank you so much to the person listing the link below. I am sure you save me a lot of $$$.

The shutter of the camera is not opening that is why every picture taken is recorded black. It is a mechanical problem and probably has nothing to do with the sensor. Not very expensive

If you take a picture using the optical viewfinder, does the camera actually record the picture? If so, you may have the LCD turned off in the camera mode (there are three options: standard, detailed, and off). With the camera in the shooting mode, press the "DISP" button and see if the LCD turns on.

Black spot in display

If the camera operates normally and the only problem is no picture is visible on the lcd in record mode and playback mode, then the lcd needs to be replaced.

Black screen in shoot mode

The most common cause of this is a failed image sensor. Usually the playback mode will let you view pictures taken before the issue happened just fine and you will also be able to view the menu system just fine. When viewing the screen in an image taking mode, however, there is typically discolorations, horizontal or vertical lines, image bluring or distortions, or simply a black screen.

This situation, if caused by the image sensor, has to serviced and cannot be fixed by the user. If you are within your one year warranty and no user damage has been done to the camera, the camera will be fixed at no charge. If beyond the 12 month period however the customer may opt to have the unit repaired at a cost or take advantage of the Canon Loyalty Program and upgrade to refurbished S3 IS at an alternate discounted price.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

Lumix TZ3 lens does not open

It is not clear if you are saying whole camera turns off or just screen turns off.

Notice before the camera went bad the lense does not extend in play mode, while it does in record mode. Many cameras have software that automatically turns camera off if lens cannot/fails to extend for some reason. Try to help it extend in record mode before camera turns off.
