Re: Xbox 360 Controller right trigger doesnt work
Your controller is most likely exhibiting a hardware failure. Taking apart the device voids your warranty. When a button does not work anymore, it is safe to say that you will need to buy a new controller.
The Logitech Chillstream Gamepad is only $20 and works in the same fashion as the XBOX 360 Controller (uses the same xb360 XInput controller driver too!)
Simple as a worn out part. The right trigger is the default fire button for most, if not all, first person shooters. The trigger has a button behind it that needs replacing. Get an old controller and take either the R or L trigger button off the board. Take the right button off your controller and do a simple swap. Need soldering skills or know somebody who does. BTW the most common part that wears out is the R analog stick. Sticks top right for some reason and your character starts drifting or moving on its own, quite irritating really.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

There are a couple things you should try before buying a new controller. First, make sure that when you start your pc or xbox 360 that you are not pressing the trigger, as this can make it stick while it is on. Next, you can try to plug in/turn on the controller and then plug out/turn off the controller a few times in a row, this may work also. If neither of those work, then you could still try with a different console or pc, and if the problem persists to those, I would think about buying a new controller.
If the potentiometer for the trigger is bad or is not making good contact with the circuit board, say through a poor solder connection, this could be your problem. If the controller isn't getting any signal from the electronic trigger component it sees that as a pressed trigger and becomes grenade happy. This has happened to me. Bob.
With the new Xbox 360 interface, the how-to below is not working anymore! You can do the following to reset your console:
To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:
1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn the console off.
3. Turn the console on.
Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the
console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller. Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do
this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper-left
quadrant light is on.
4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time.
This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the
default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it's OK
when the Xbox 360 console restarts.
FOR PS3 :
Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after
the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's
native resolution for all settings.
you have to press the connection buttons, one on the controller and one on the xbox 360, the one on the controller is located on top by the triggers next to the cartridge insert port right by the left button, it has 3 wavy lines next to it, when you press it, the controller will light up and go in circles. After that quickly press the button on the xbox 360 located under memory unit A, to the left of the disc eject, then the xbox 360 lights will go in a circle then automatically connect. If it doesnt work at first, try it again, but quicker.
