When shooting with flash in a location where there are many suspended particles, such as in a dusty area or on a snowy day, the image may contain white circles as shown in the picture below.
Why does this happen? If the flash fires when a suspended particle floats right in front of the lens, the reflection of the flash from the particle appears more intensely than that of the subject, as the particle is much closer to the lens than the subject. Therefore, the reflection of the flash turns out in the image and causes an effect such as that shown in the sample image above. The closer the lens and strobe are located, allowing suspended particles to be exposed to more light, the more frequently this effect can occur.
How can I avoid this effect? Ideally, it is best to shoot in locations where there are very few suspended particles. If not, you can use following method to prevent this effect. a) Avoid using flash by lighting the area as much as possible. b) If your camera has a zoom function, shoot at a wide angle. c) If you can attach an external flash, use the external flash to distance the flash from the lens.

Took my Canon PowerShot Pro 1 in to be worked on and Canon says that the part needed isn't made anymore. This camera isn't that ols and the line is a popular line how is this? They say they will trade me a refurbished SX 100 IS for the estimated repair price. The problem with my camera is that you can turn it on take a picture then the lens goes in and out continually and the only way to turn the camera off is to take out the battery. I know what I paid for my Pro 1 and the refurbished replacement camera doesn't even come near that. I am very leary of Canon at this point and wonder if I make the trade will my camera then be fixed and sold as a refurbished camera. How is it that a company doesn't make replacement parts for a popular camera line they sell? I was going to use this camera as a fun little back up but I can honestly say I am so glad I decided to make all my other camera, film and digital, Nikon. Thanks for any help, insights or suggestions. Like I said not to trusting at this point and 600.00 down the tube.
