Question about Canon Digital Cameras

2 Answers

I have a 10D which used to belong to my editor. I have noticed that at times the camera refuses to take a picture, and flashes up an error message which is either 'Err OS' or 'Err 05' (I'm not sure which). How can I pyt this right. I think that when the error occurs the caera is trying to pop open the built-in flash, at least someone told me that today.

I recharged the batteries on Friday evening, but on Saturday morning the problem was still the same. I have the bettery extender, and generally use the Canon 28 - 105 mm lens.

Thank you Sweet Rascal. I tried setting to P and the flash popped up when I pressed the button. I don't have a Speed;ight (although I do have a rather unweildy Cobra which I don't like very much.
I'll get myself a Canon Speedlight and start using that. Many thanks for your help. I didn't know what the error message was about.

its also a problem with your flash assembly.

    try using a external flash

  • dewan nafees ahmed Aug 24, 2008

Err error 5 is the on board flash is obstructed ...

Try setting the camera to 'P' and press the flash button to ensure it does in fact pop up. Are you using the camera on Auto?

i would suggest you to use a external flash

you wont face the problem any more

I have a canon 10D that is getting an "error 99".

You could've used a non-compatible lens or the contacts are dirty. Turn the camera off then use a clean micro fiber cloth or pencil eraser to clean the contacts.

Canon 10d digital camera Err 02 message - CF card error Have tried multiple CF cards in this camera with same result. Cards all work fine in my other 10d and in card readers / media players. Checked CF...

Most likey your problem is the cf card reader when ever the camera was made they could have not heated up the board all the way causing a cold solderjoint after time this joint becomes week and gets disconnected on the back side no visual damage is seen causing you the error you are getting. best thing to do is take it to a repair shop and have them fix it or the manufacture should repair it for free because there is no fisical damage.

Cannot open some photos in microsoft photo editor

Your computer will have to have enough RAM, speed, and CPU power to open the large format pictures. We are using computers with at least 4 gb of RAM with dual core processors for the large format pictures.

A solution you can use would be to go in to the set-up of your camera and cut down the resolution of the piictures. If you do this, then there would be no point in the cost of having the level of camera that you are using. The pictures will then look like and have the quality of a lower end camera.

Err 99

Although you may have cleaned the lens contacts, did you clean the camera contacts? This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera should be serviced.

Problems with Flash

Press Menu button
togle across from REC Mode to setup
togle down thrice from camera to setup 1
togle across into sub menu
togle down from four times to Initialize
togle across again to the sub-menu
togle up from cancel to OK
press center button to accept the OK choice
Screen changes and so press okay again
It should restart the camera
Opening on the 'Clock Set' screen
togle down to cancel and use the camera and make sure that you have the camera to flash, if it works try again in the Auto function.
If it is still not working do not worry follow the steps again two or three more times, As this is generally a software error message and not a hardware malfunction.
If it is working then don't forget to set your Clock.

Error 99

I get error 99 sometimes on my 20 D but it?s usually to do with a lens that is attached. Sigma lens have been known to cause error's. If it's not that or dirty contact on the lens then it could be a more serious problem. I would at least check it out with a canon dealer/repair centre.
