My Sony vaio pcg-3c2l shuts down without any prior warning. Any suggestions on what might be the issue?

Any 4.5v power supply should work. Most electronics places sell "universal" power supplies.

The battery maybe faulty.
This problem usually occurs with batteries that are 3 years and older.

The charging circuit in the laptop maybe faulty.

Try pressing the power button for several seconds (10-15). It should power off the laptop.
If not, unplug the charger and remove the battery for a few minutes. Then try to start it up again.

it sounds like a problem with your harddrive. if you have an oem copy of your OS then you could do a chkdsk /r from this. If not then the harddrive will have to be removed and the chkdsk /r done from a data reader from another computer. Hope this helps, leave feedback

Hi would i suggest is do not turn it on at all, while you can get a cooling pad for you laptop it does not work that well. Please take it to a repair shop inmediately. Sony and HPs tend to overheat a lot and the problem is that the video card on the motherboard goes bad and you will have to buy a replacement is the most expensive part rather than just the fan+labor. I was going to suggest overheating before I read your own diagnosis; Yes, sound like the fan, but you can check by opening up and watching it. Or install temperature monitoring software such as Speefan;
If it is the fan it may well be that there is only one possible replacement - officially. But it is usually possible to cannibalize something cheaper to suit your purpose!
