I have a Phillips Magnavox (about 10 years old or so) smart series TV. When I turn the tv on, it comes on briefly with a pale blue screen with white horizontal lines running throughout the screen and then the tv turns itself off after about 5 seconds. Any idea what is wrong??

I once had a problem with a Phillips tv.It was less than one year old and one day ,all of a suddenm a black screen came up.I elarned it was called the "black screen of death" and that other people had gone through the same thing.Someone online had actually written to Phillips and they had gotten a new TV form them,so I tried the same thing and amazingly,Phillips gave us a new TV and came and took the old one.The enw worked fine. So you may have a lemon on your hands.Unfortunately, I do not have the letter I sent to them but the replacement they sent me was part of their "Rapid Replacement" program. This wa sin 2008 so I'm not sure if they still ahve it but it may be worth a try.
THI IS THE INTERNAL CIRCUTRY FAULT BEST YOU

IF I understand you correctly, the VCR, Satellite, etc is connected using an RF modulator/coaxial cable wire going into Antenna in
IF this is true, then you have an AV IN port (red, yellow, white) free on the back. Just connect the red, yellow, white from the out of the DVD - you can use 1 or 2 - just remember which one you used; and connect it to the AV IN on the back of the TV.
THEN press ch down on the TV remote until you get to "AV1" - it is below channel 2; double check DVD player to make DVD is playing and voila!
I have a Smart Series 32" Phillips-Magnovox TV I bought april '99. Around July 4 weekend 2008 it decided it just does not want to come on any more! Was working just fine before that...I can not find my manual. Any suggestions?
Check your input cabling and connectors and make sure you have a good input signal. Put another tv on this same input cable and see what happens. Keever
have the coolant (glycol) in the CRT's....not as expensive as buying a new set...and sounds like it should be good as new if thats the only problem you have with it.
Hi
If you mean thin white lines, this is is an indication of a problem in the Horizontal Drive ckt. most likely the Damper Diode has opened or shorted, this would cause the visual symptom and then the set would shut down, unfortunately this is a problem best left to a qualified technician to repair, hope this helps.
