If you are talking about turning off the check engine light (CEL), a simple reset will not work. The reason for the CEL being on needs to be addressed first. There are fault codes generated by the computer that can be read a OBII reader. These codes identify the area or sensor where the problem exists. One thing you never want to do is drive the car for longer periods of time with a flashing CEL. A flashing CEL indicates there is a problem that could possibly harm the engine or catalytic converter.

You need to have the throttle body cleaned, make sure that both the front side and back side are cleaned thoroughly. Also, the battery should be disconnected while the cleaning takes place, this will reset the computer ans allow it to relearn to the newly cleaned throttle body.

I replaced my battery in my 2004 GMC Envoy last week now the car cuts off/stalls whenever I come to a complete stop. It fires right back up once I put it back in park and start it again.
The throttle body needs to be cleaned, When you disconnected the battery, the computer reset to factory defaults and now with a dirty throttle body, it will run poorly at idle. Make sure both the front side and rear side of the throttle body are cleaned thoroughly.

There many things that can turn off the CC, intermittent or poorly adjusted brake light switch, faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS), faulty wheel sensor, intermittent fault code set by computer. A real time scan of the computer would have to be done to isolate the cause.
