There is no way to drop the feed dogs on this machine. you should have received a feed dog cover plate in your accessory pack. you just place it over the feed dogs, lining it up with the holes on either side of the throat plate.

In the very back near the front but just beneath the bed of your machine, you will find a flat button. Push the flat button and it will lower your feed dogs. I have this sewing machine and I love it.

There is a black lever behind, above and to the right of the needle.

Yesterday, while machine quilting, I heard a clank. Now the feed dogs won't feed the fabric. The feed dogs seem to move back when I start sewing; it seems as if they stayed forward before...

Did you check to make sure the feed dogs weren't inadvertently dropped. Most sewists drop the feed dogs for free motion quilting or darning.

How do I drop the feed dogs for quilting on my Brother XL 4011 sewing machine

It should be included in the owner's manual. (An internet search did not turn up a manual for your machine, but a model close to your machine may operate very similarly.) You can also contact Brother Support.

The other possibility is that the feed dogs on your model do not actually drop. There may be an accessory (darning plate) in your kit that covers the feed dogs during darning or free motion quilting. (Shown on page 38 of the following manual):

How to lower feed dogs? so they let the material slide over for a quilting pattern ?

Your manual should tell you how to do this. Here are some hints: http://theinboxjaunt.com/2013/04/15/seven-steps-to-free-motion-quilting/

The User Guide suggests there is a different Needleplate (must be thicker than standard) used for darning, free motion quilting etc.

Can you drop the feed dogs on kenmore 385.1233280 or do you have to remove them to do free motion quilting?

Do you have your manual? Normally, there will be a lever next to your bobbin area to lower your feed dogs if you have a vertical bobbin. If, it is a horizontal bobbin it will usually have a cover to put over the feed dogs. If you are in doubt, take your machine and go to your local Sears sewing machine department, usually your salemen are very helpful and give great advice for free.

I own the singer advance 7442 and want to lower the feed dogs in order to use a quilting foot to machine quilt. However I don't have my manual and I need to know how to lower my feed dogs. Can you help me...

The 7442 does not have feed dogs which can be dropped. You need to use the "Darning Plate" which came with the accessories.

Machine quilting

To stipple ,remove the ankle and foot, lower the feed dogs and, most importantly, lower the presser foot lever.
You can also buy a LOW SHANK darning foot which will help prevent skipped stitches. It must be screwed onto the machine instead of snapping on.

Quilting on Janome MC 4000

I have a MC4000 and a manual. To raise or drop the feed dog, remove the accessory box and feel at the back of the free arm there is a lever that will slide left or right to raise or lower the feed dog. I am not a quilter, but the manual says to use foot A (zigzag foot) and accessory L (quilter) which appears to be a guide. Cheers, Deb, Townsville, Australia

am I right that the feed dogs do not drop on this machine?

Yes, this is correct....but you have to change the needle plate to a thicker one, so the feed dogs will be below the needle plate.
