You can change it as long as it the same or compatible with your motherboard. try to see your manual about your motherboard and see the compatibilities aside from your previous processor. hope that helps!

Is it possible to upgrade the mother board in this computer?

Dell Cases are very often only for Dell boards--connectors not standard--It can be done, but a lot of trouble. If you want to really speed up look for good complete kit from tigerdirect.com--and put it together--Will work A LOT better than what you can buy at stores.

P4 Pentium

The GA-8IE comes with the 845E chipset. The below link will provide a list of all the processors the board will support.

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=1320

It appears that the fastest it will support is the P4 Prescott, Northwood, or Extreme @ 3.4GHz (800MHz FSB).

Hope this is the information you were looking for.
