To know if your tomtom is fully charged. Unplug the tomtom from the power source and you will see the battery meter, if it is full or not, because while it is charging, it is the power source that is working so the battery signal will not come up. Unplug it and you will see the battery meter.

if it says no device connected in ur tomtom home, then u need to uninstall ur tomtom home, clear the cache, empty ur recycle bin, reinstall the tomtom home and connect ur device. if unsuccessful after this and getting same message then assigned USB port driver needs to be updated.
have u gone to the Tomtom web site and registered the GPS yet? if not that is where u start, then just follow the instructions at the site for your map update, u will need a computer and the internet as well as a special USB cable to link the GPS to the computer for the download when prompted.
While in drive view, tap the screen on the blue status bar, on the GPS signal strength. A new screen appears showing the battery charge level at the top right corner.
