Question about KitchenAid KSCS25IN Side by Side Refrigerator

Outside of refrigerator is hot - almost burning hot

I have a cabinet deep side by side Kitchen Aid Refrigerator. The freezer & refrigerator are both the correct temperature but the vertical strip between the two doors is extremely hot to the touch. It is heating up the rubber strip that goes around the door.

How is it getting hot and why? Do I need to call a repair man? I've had the fridge for 4 years and I don't recall the outside vertical strip being hot to the touch. Is it suppose to be? I somehow don't think so. I just removed the bottom vent cover and cleaned out all the lint that had collected on the radiator strips. I'm sure this has something to do with it but I don't understand how it only heated up the vertical strip between the doors and how the inside is staying cold if the vent was clogged.

Please help.

Thanks

I recently noticed that we have the exact same situation with our side-by-side KSCS25INSS01. The fridge & freezer seems to work just fine, but the center black colored column between the two doors is very hot on the face of it, really too hot to keep a hand on it for any length of time.

Hopefully someone from KitchenAid will be able to post a response..!

I saw that the same problem was happening some some people with their Frigidaire side by side, and they were saying it was a circuit board inside that needed changing. Don't know if this might be the same thing...

The frame between the doors has a refrigerant line running through it to prevent moisture build up between doors (should be room temp. or slightly warm, not hot).
If that area between the doors is hot to the touch, you have two things to check: 1 - are the condenser coils under unit or in the back clean? 2 - is the condenser fan running in the back that is near the compressor running?

I recently had the same issue of the sides/center becoming hot on my kscs25inss01. The cooling fan would not come on. I kept unplugging and waiting for a while then re-plugging in to get the fan to work for a while (it takes 7 minutes for it to come on after plugged in). I also placed a small box fan at the rear vent pulling the air out. I ordered the contoller board and replaced it, now, the fan comes on and it is staying cool.
Replacement:
I removed panel in lower back,
removed inverter box next to compressor,
removed gounding wire on frame,
then removed the controller box.
Popped out old board
moved the center jumper from old board to new board in same location,
and plugged everything in and sealed it back up in reverse order leaving off back panel and waiting 7 minutes till fan kicked on.

What can I do to my kitchen aid refrigerator very hot between refrierator and freezer

Is there a fan inside, or a damper that allows freezing air to go into the fridge? The fan may be stuck and overheating.

Frig is very hot on the outside ban that meets the seal

That heat that you feel is part of the design of all refrigerators. Those heaters are there to keep water from condensing on the outside of the cabinet around the freezer door. Just like water condenses on a cup of Ice water. It will do the same on a refrigerator. If those small heaters were not there. The water would cause the paint to rust badly. There are various arrangements of heaters used on Freezers and refrigerators around the doors. Particularly the Freezer door.
As long as the fridge is cooling properly it is fine.
If the fridge fails to get cold, the outside of the cabinet will actually get quite hot.
Hope this helps,
Best, Mark

Kitchen Aid Fridge KSRF25FRBL00 - Hot Panel between doors

This strip is warmed to prevent condensation forming here during humid weather. Some models use a refrigerant pass of the compressor to warm this strip other use a heater that can be controlled by a 2 position switch in the refrigerator control panel that reads something like "Turn this on if moisture appears on cabinet exterior". If you have no such switch you should be aware that the strip is ALWAYS warm but barely noticeable until you develop a problem in the cooling system.

Check temperatures in the freezer (Zero Degrees approx.) and refrigerator (Approx. 30). If these are normal don't worry about the heat from that strip. If you find a temperature not normal you have the beginning of a cooling problem unrelated to that strip.

Kitchen Aid #KSCs25INSS01: Outside of Freezer is very hot, jumped down to -15 degrees - will not allow readjustment.

I recently had the same issue of the sides/center becoming hot on my kscs25inss01. The cooling fan would not come on. I kept unplugging and waiting for a while then re-plugging in to get the fan to work for a while (it would run about 12 hours then get hot again, it also takes 7 minutes for fan to come on after plugged in). I also placed a small box fan at the rear vent pulling the air out. I ordered the contoller board and replaced it, now, the fan comes on and it is staying cool.
Replacement:
I removed panel in lower back,
removed inverter box next to compressor,
removed gounding wire on frame,
then removed the controller box - metal box along side of refrigerator
Popped out old board ,
moved the center jumper from old board to new board in same location,
and plugged everything in and sealed it back up in reverse order.

Compressor runs continuously, and center bar (heat dissipator) is extremely hot to touch.

Molly, The hot bar is a normal part of the sealed system (compressor) operation. The relay they told you about is on the back of the compressor and I would not recommend you changing that. The refrigerator is a balanced system, the freezer air removes the heat from the refrigerator side. If the compressor runs all the time, look for food close to the edge and not letting the doors close completely. Move items back. Don't over pack the freezer, the air must circulate. The refrigerator of today runs longer and uses less power that the old refrigerator. If you are still having issues with this model call a authorized Kitchen repair person in you area and ask how much they charge to come to your house and give an estimate.

Kitchen Aid Refer: KSSC42FMS01: The freezer, doesn't go below 32

How long have you had this refrigerator and is this the first time this has happened? Your refrigerator has a control board and I believe the board is causing the refrigerator not to defrost every 8 hours. Let me know these questions and I will help you resolve this. Thanks, Sea Breeze
