Can you tell me the default IP address for this unit as I have lost the pass word and need to reset the unit

If your computer is plugged into the router, you can easily get the router's IP address by going to your command prompt and typing "ipconfig" without the quotes.

Command Prompt is under Start (or Orb if using Win7 or Vista) > All Programs > Accessories

After typing "Ipconfig" and hitting return, command prompt should display something like this:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : blah.blah.comcast.net.
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.196
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Ethernet adapter PdaNet Broadband Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

The router's address is your "Default Gateway." You should be able to put that address into an Internet Explorer window and it will bring up the configuration interface.

How to find your Router's IP address

The easiest way to know your Routers Internal IP address is by using a little command line tool called ipconfig. This command line is built in with Windows Operating System and is being used for various networking solutions. To use this, you need to click Start and find the run command. Click the Run command and you should see a little run dialog box after.

iantechson_1.jpg

In the run dialog box, type in cmd and either press ENTER or click the Ok button. You should see a black window with white text and this is referred to as the command prompt.

iantechson_2.jpg

At the command prompt type in ipconfig and press enter. That should display three major information. The IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. The IP address in line with Default Gateway is your router's Internal IP address.

Each Router has Internal and External IP address. The internal IP address is what you use to talk to your router. Use this IP address to login to your router setup page and configure it for things like port forwarding. External IP address is what the rest of the world uses to find you on the Internet.

Hope this helps.

Intermittently, my home network and internet access ceases to function. Troubleshooting indicates the "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP connection. Resetting the router (12...

Going inot the router configuration page and reserving your computer with a specific IP address would resolve this issue, If you have never gone into the router config page, it would be reccomended that you not do this, and have a computer savvy person with networking experiance do this for you.

another solution would be releasing and renewing your IP address in the command prompt on your computer

in command prompt, type : ipconfig /release ENTER then ipconfig /renew to renew your ip address, this can be done rather than resetting the router everytime

I want to reconfigure this so xbox will work on second computer the second computer works but it will not automatically pick up xbox, I have disabled wireless and hit the reset button when I type in...

Hi.

To configure the router you must connect to the router using a cable.

Ensure that IP is 192.168.1.1 , and not 192.168.0.1 for example.

If you are using a computer to configure the router, turn off the firewall.

You can find out router IP opening the command prompt (type CMD in run box) and typing ipconfig/all in the Dos command prompt.
Router IP will be indicated as default gateway.

Regards.
