D23 a 1n4004 diode second component from pa speaker port inside radio has failed. It is most likely that neg/pos polarity has been switched shorting this diode. It is there to protect your radio from reverse polarity as so it is names the "protection diode." 2 solutions first not recommended.

1. Cut the diode this will stop the directed grounding that is continuing to blow your fuse.
2. Go get a pack of 1n4004 and rosin core silver solder from radio shack and replace it paying attention to the direction it is installed.

just a side note the solder trace often burns in this area so a jumper wire soldered in around this bad area solder side maybe needed.

SOURCE: Blowing fuses with wiring CB to battery

Is the wire going to the battery touching chasis ground at all? Accidentally pinched it, cut wire etc? If not the the power supply may be fried.

SOURCE: when i plug my 29 plug in, into the cb it

Yes I know the problem!! At one point the radio was pluged in backwards the positive prong touched the negative and vise versa and caused the Reverse Polairty Diode to pop inside the radio!! The only wat to fix this is ti have the radio taken to a Radio Tech and have the old bad part removed and a new good part put in!! The price of this fix varies from Tech. to Tech. depending on the C.B. shop!! e are a full line C.B. shop and we also do repairs. A repair like this some times will go around an average of 35.00. We would charge around 15.00 to fix it plus S+H if any one came to us for this problem!! oplease feel free to E-mail us with any other questions that you may have at" [email protected] We hope this helps

Testimonial: "feedback was very helpful i have had 4 people tell me the radio is wasnt any good and that it was junk thanks"

What would cause my cobra 29 to blow fuses when u turn on the power

You have a bad diode near back. Probably the black fat one with a stripe. Its located near power leads and audio transformer in one corner. Change all Black Diodes with (White) stripes in back. You must of crosswired it blowing the diode.

I have a problem with my uniden cb with nitro 300a amp. The amp keeps blowing fuses immediately when I turn it on and I do not know how to trouble shoot the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

hello is it the fuse along the cb line or the amp line if its blowing on the cb line you will need to get a 5-7amp fuse or even 10amp to be safe ,do the same with the amp this should cure the problem

I have a uniden pc68ltw cb radio and it keeps blowing the 2amp in line fuse i tried a 5amp but still blows the fuse.i hooked it into another truck to test it but still blew the fuse. something wrong with...

Hello,

have you been using the uniden pc68ltw cb radio without the fuse blowing before?

If the uniden pc68ltw cb radio has not been blowing fuse before, then might be a problem from the radio. This problem should be a power related problem.

The fuse blowing means there is excess of current. So while your trying to refuse, thicken the wire.

Best regards.

I have a TRC 458 cb.... it keeps blowing fuses

It may have been reversed polarity on turn on. This can short out the polarity diode and then cause fuses to blow. This is a protection circuit so do not keep trying new fuses as the reverse surge can go into the radio deeper and damage it beyond repair.

No power to radio in trk have 13.5 volts to radio 257 magnum

Ensure that the wiring is correct. Also make sure that the CB's AC is still functioning correctly. Charge your truck's batteries and test the CB on a fixed electrical output (indoor outlet). Also check to see if the power cord is the correct wattage output for the radio.

Hope this helps!

B;owing fuses, wont power up, just smokes

Hi,

Try checking the reverse protection diode. This diode would normally be connected right after the power connector and would be the biggest diode inside. One way to verify if this is defective and causing the fuse to blow is even with the power switch at the OFF position, the fuse will still blow.

If on the other hand, the reverse protection diode is good and fuse will not blow when power switch is at OFF, then the short/defective component is inside. There would only be two (2) major components that can cause the fuse to blow with the power switch to ON, the final transistor and/or the audio IC.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Fuse

Hi,

There are only a couple of components that could cause the fuse to blow. They are:
1. Reverse protection diode (D23)
2. filter capacitor (C123)
3. Outputs (TR14 & 15)
4. Audio Amp (IC4)
5. Zener Diodes (D22 & 19)
6. the fuse itself (it should be 2 Amps

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.
