We have a Jensen marine system that came installed in our Tahoe boat. Shortly after we got the boat, the left speaker stopped working. A few months later, the speaker came back. Then just before the end of...

This really sounds like a wiring problem. I would start from scratch, seeing as how it will be difficult to find the issue you describe. Also, if you can, solder your connections to the radio. If you used crimp butts they may not have been tight enough and vibrated loose with use of the boat. Hope this helps

Sounds like you have a lot of equipment on your boat, cool. But you need to think about the load you are putting on the battery. If you don't have a way to charge the battery back up, you just keep getting the power lower and lower the more you play. Also, with that much draw, it probably doesn't take long before you experience this. Unless your engine is internal and has an alternator to it to recharge the electrical system. This will keep happening. A couple of choices you can make. Either downgrade your system to something that has less draw (definitely ditch the 1000w amp and sub), or you can put more batteries in your boat. Kinetik makes great audio batteries, but regardless of how many you put in your boat, there has to be a way to recharge them. You will probably need to recharge the battery after every use. Hope this helps

Radio was working great today, then bam it quit. Checked the fuse found it blew(10amp) replaced it. Tried to power up the radio NOTHING... Checked ground wiring,it's fine, checked two other fuses fine....

If you already have your dash apart, have you looked for a fuse directly on the radio itself? There should be one somewhere near the power wiring on the back of it. If this is blown, you will be getting power to the wiring, but not to the radio. Replacing this fuse should help you out.
If this is not the problem, use a voltmeter to check the wiring where it goes into your stereo. If there is no power here, then the power overload that blew your 10amp fuse is probably related to a short circuit somewhere in the wiring between the fuse and the stereo. To repair this, you will likely have to run a few new power wires (you should replace both the positive and negative to make sure you have fully bypassed the problem) from the fuse to the stereo. If you have checked these wires with a voltmeter and they have power at the back of the stereo, but the stereo itself is not still not working, then the problem is with the stereo itself.
If you find that the wiring to the stereo all has power ... the fuses are all good (which you have already stated) ... the fuse on the stereo itself is in good shape ... then there might be a short within the workings of the stereo itself. If you are not experienced with repairing electronics this could be out of your ability to fix -- you can bring it to a shop or buy a replacement. If you are experienced with repairing electronics, open up the stereo and start checking the wiring (starting from the closest point to the power input and moving towards the stereo's face. This could be a long and arduous process ... so if you are not experienced with it ... I recommend taking it to a professional or just replacing it (your hair is probably worth more than the $100 you would spend on a decent replacement stereo ... and if you are like me, you would be ripping out your hair after checking the first few hundred possible connections within the stereo itself).
Hopefully it is just the fuse on the back of the stereo itself, and you can have that fixed in short order. Good luck!

I am having problems with my brand new JVC car stereo. It stops playing after a few minuets. I installed it properly. All connections are soldered and insulated with heat shrink tubing. If I shut it...

it sounds like you may have a bad speaker. if you can, check the resistance of each speaker. it should be about 4 ohms. if one is less than 3 ohms, that is probably what is causing the problem.

take a digital volt meter and check the power cable and ground on the amp to see if you are getting any power . should read 12.5 or more if no power then check fuses and the ground connection

if you have power then replace the equipment that not working

The stereo on my boat is producing sound out of one speaker only. How do I troubleshoot the problem..is it the speaker?

Highly doubtful. Chase down all speaker wires to your source unit make sure all are not shorted out and connnected properly. Or to your amp if you have them wired to one.

I have a Panasonic CQ-DFX403U car cd player and when I insert cd's nothing plays and after a few seconds something pops up that says CD E1?

That is the error code for the laser being bad. It is a very difficult job to replace one.

You can try cleaning the lens with a cleaning disc, run it for about 20 to 30 seconds and if that doesn't help the laser will need to be replaced.

These are very good car stereos, Panasonic makes some of the best car stereos around. It may be the only thing they make really good. So it may be worth it to you to get it fixed. The cost should be around $130 give or take a little depending on the cost of the part and the rates of the shop.

I have been repairing car and home audio for over 17 years and work at an authorized Panasonic service center. So I have lots of experience with these.

If you need any help, just ask. And if you found this information helpful a "FixYa" rating would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Popping noise in new stereo install

Does this only happen when you turn the stereo on? If so, it's perfectly normal. It happens when the amplifier in your stereo powers up. It's an older car with "unshielded" wiring that isn't going to be grounded properly. Oh, and to answer your question, yes, the plus (+) and minus (-) are for positive (+) and negative (-) terminals. Make sure that red is on positive and black is on negative. Reversing the polarity (installing the wires backwards) normally won't make the system stop working but it can damage your new speakers.

You also should make sure that you've connected the stereo ground. It will probably be screwed onto the back of the stereo and if there isn't a provided green wire in the bundle coming from the car than you'll just need to find a place to attach it to the car's metal chassis.
