I just got a sony color rear projection tv model # kp-53s17 and there are lines going verticaly(side to side) across the entire TV, there are a few that are flashing and alot that are constant.

It sounds like the focus pack needs to be replaced (p/n 122392535) and re-adjusted. The re-adjusting could be the tricky part if you haven't done these before.

This is a problem with the vertical circuit. This can be as simple as poor connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. If you can solder, you should be able to fix this yourself. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I will supply additional details and instructions.

Its your receiver, not your tv! Switch receivers and it will go away!

I got this TV for FREE from a guy posting it on craigslist because he saw "BLUE SWIRL LINES" also knows as "Retrace Line" on the screen and he went to several repair people and got high repair costs so he was giving it away for free, but i found a guide that tells you how to adjust the tv to make the blue or green or red lines go away, aparantly the line show up because the voltage on the color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment. Those are called retrace lines and they are the result of the blanking pulse not having the desired effect. This could denote a problem in the Horizontal section of the TV. In this case the green gun is not being turned off as it goes back to the left side of the screen.
