Hello, please reboot your laptop and press F12 to display boot options. Press the appropriate key, usually F11 to start the recovery.
However If your recovery system was not on a separate partition you may have lost it during your format. If this turns out to be the case use your backup recovery DVDs, order afresh from toshiba or install an operating system of your choice.
This probably means it can't boot off the hard disk or the CD ROM. Make sure there's no CD in the drive. Try holding F1 as you turn on the unit to see if you can get into the setup if it still won't boot with no CD.
Unfortunately the OS got corrupted and you need to re install the Operating system.
There is no other way to fix the problem but use the recovery disc.
If you dont have a recovery disc you may want to contact the manufacturer of your laptop and order one.
Or if you can use a retail version of Operating system and once finished installing you may need to download the drivers of your laptop on the support site.
Hope this helps.
Your description of the symptom shows that your operating system installation has been corrupted. Fastest and easiest way to resolve the Issue using the "Recovery and application disk" (it comes with laptop) to perform full system recovery. I would like to remind you full system recovery will erase everything saved on Hard drive. You can check possible option on http://support.toshiba.com
If you dont have recovery and application disk you get one. You can call Toshiba @ 1-800-457-7777
First of All Usual meaning of crash related to Operating System which is Software. If you are talking about the Operating system Crash its not something to worry. Most effective way is to perform full system recovery by Using Toshiba Recovery and Applications DVD which comes together. When you put the disk in and restart by pressing F12 boot option will appear when you choose CD/DVD a menu will appear. With that menu you can perform windows system restore also Toshiba full system recovery (it will set everything to factory default).
First of all sorry to hear your story. But I guess you shouldn't think there is no solution left. I am Toshiba Technical Specialist and I used to work for Toshiba. Toshiba recovery CD is obtainable from Toshiba. you can call their hotline number or you can go to Toshiba authorized dealer. Recovery CD Cost about $39 including shipping. Alternately there is no harm to use different XP Operating System as long its correctly installed. But for the drivers you need to download from http://support.toshiba.com (if you dont use the Recovery CD)
