Hello Blac,

All the laptops available in market have built in wireless 802.11 b/g/n or 802.11 b/g/n Bluetooth® wireless networking. It means that you can access the internet via Wi-Fi or through Wi-Fi hotspots. In wireless connectivity you do not require the wired connection to access the internet. In home you can connect the laptop via wireless connection using the home networking router available in market. The advantage of wireless connection is that you can use the internet in your home anywhere with in 100 meters of range with proper wireless signals. You will require to get the internet connection from the ISP(Internet Service Provider).

Hi Welcome to FixYa!
When it say that you have built-in wireless on the computer, that means your laptop has a wireless adapter that is integrated to the motherboard inside it. That would let you connect to any Wifi or Wireless internet connection. If you already have broadband internet on your house, you can check if it has Wireless capabilities. If not, you should have a Wireless router that you can connect to the modem for you to have Wireless Internet connection.

I have a acer aspire 5735z and cannot connect to my new adsl modem, telstra ( internet provider) told me to ring acer, will the acer company tell me i need a new drive and will i have to pay for it??? this...

Is your Telstra/Bigpond ADSL modem has a built-in wireless router?
If the ADSL modem has a built-in wireless router and your laptop does not have a wireless card, then you have two options to connect your laptop to the ADSL wireless router/Internet -
1. Purchase a PCMCIA wireless adapter and insert it into the PCMCIA slot in your laptop. One of my favourites is made by Netgear.
or
2. Purchase a USB wireless adapter, the only disadvantage with this solution is, it uses a USB port and if your laptop has only one USB port. This is a problem if you need to connect other USB devices. Then you also need to purchase a 4 port USB hub to give you additional USB ports.

How do I hook my wireless usb netopia chip in order to sign on the internet

You ned to contact an Internet Service Provider to determine if your USB wireless adapter is compatible with their service.
Read this info for an idea on how to connect to the Internet :-

There several ways to connect to the Internet.
1. You can use a cable or DSL modem and connect this modem to the laptop with a LAN cable.
2. You can use a wireless router with a cable or DSL modem and connect to the wireless router using a wireless card (a PCMCIA wireless card or the laptop may have a built-in wireless card). This wireless card can also be used in WiFi locations such as the airport, McDonalds and Starbucks etc.
3. You can use an USB G3 wireless adapter. This type of device uses the G3 mobile network and may not give you Internet coverage in some locations.
All these require an Internet Service Provider and the costs vary widely depending upon the various plans they offer. Check the ISP in your area and compare the plans and cost of their plans and pick the one that best suits your needs.

How to connect acer as5920 to internet

You can connect to the Internet using a cable or DSL modem and connect it to your computer using a network cable or a USB cable.

Basically you need to see what the Internet Service Providers offer in your location. Beware of the costs of the various plans they offer in broadband speed, their download limits and the penality for exceeding the limits etc.

Then read the following info to decide what type of Internet access you require.

If you want to connect to the Internet using a wireless connection then read this.
What you need first is to install the wireless driver for your wireless card in your computer. If you don't have one you need to purchase a wireless card.

Wireless connections to the Internet can be achieved by several methods and it depends upon the method of delivery by the Internet Service Provider in your location.
The most common is by DSL and cable, the modems that are used with DSL and cable connection can have a built-in wireless router. Your computer will require a wireless card to connect to the modem/wireless router and the range is restricted to approx. 100 ft depending where the wireless router is located within the building.

The laptop's wireless card can be a built-in device or a plug-in device eg a PCMCIA card or a USB device. and these can also connect to a wifi hot spot in locations such as McDonalds. Star Bucks etc.

There is another method that can connect into the Internet that uses a USB wireless device that connects to a G3 network, bacically a type of mobile transmission and the device is locked into a specific Internet Service Provider. This method gives a wider mobile range (even across states) of connecting to the Internet but usually at a higher cost.

When you decide which method you choose, you need to consider setting up your wireless network securely to prevent unauthorized access.

My phone modle is Samsung E250.i want connect the internet using it.my laptop has a modem and i hope my phone use a modem.i connecting the internet it's show two modems.i want to know my phone Serial...

your phone serves as a modem already, just disable the built-in modem of your laptop. then if your phone comes with an installation CD like the nokia models, then you can set it up to be a modem for your laptop, but then you should know if your CP service provider are capable with this, like GPRS, HSDPA, and other wireless protocols. and last, you should have alot of loads for your CP, hehehehe

How to connect wireless router, Netgear WGR614, to my computer?

4 steps to set up your home wireless network
1.
Choose your wireless equipment
The first step is to make sure that you have the equipment you need. As you're looking for products in stores or on the Internet, you might notice that you can choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. We recommend 802.11g, because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything.
Shopping list
• Broadband Internet connection
• Wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support or a wireless network adapter

A wireless router
The router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast, sort of like a cordless phone base station. Be sure to get a wireless router, and not a wireless access point.
A wireless network adapter
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. If you have a newer computer you may already have wireless capabilities built in. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to purchase an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. Make sure that you have one adapter for every computer on your network.
Note: To make setup easy, choose a network adapter made by the same vendor that made your wireless router. For example, if you find a good price on a Linksys router, choose a Linksys network adapter to go with it. To make shopping even easier, buy a bundle, such as those available from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Microsoft, and Buffalo. If you have a desktop computer, make sure that you have an available USB port to plug the wireless network adapter into. If you don't have any open USB ports, buy a hub to add additional ports.
2.
Connect your wireless router
Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.

Need router or modem for ATT DSL 6.0

Hi,
Your laptop has got a modem built in, but it is intended for dial up 56Kbps, not DSL. So they are both right. But if you want to use a DSL internet service you will need to buy either a DSL router or modem. You should not need to buy bothas the router will have the modem built in. Your ISP may have a prefered model and will probably sell you one at a fairly cheap price or you can get one from your local PC world. If you only have the one Laptop at home you can buy either the router or the modem. The modem will probably be cheaper. But for around $60 you can buy a router I prefer wireless. This will allow you around 4 connections and more importantly frees you up from having to be directly and closely connected and allows you to work in various places around the home without trailing cables everywhere. Your ISP will advise you on the settings you require. I advise you to enable all the security options on any wireless devices. I hope this was useful.

Internet promplems

for dial up simply a modem .... on laptops if you do not have a builtin modem you can purchase a pc-card modem that goes into your pcmcia slot ... for highspeed either a ethernet (same option as modem) but almost all modern laptops have a built in ethernet ... or usb ... also I highly recommend a router if you are going highspeed ... even if you only have one computer ... a router will protect your system because it provides a NAT firewall. If you go with a router make sure to set up the internet connection on the router do not tunnel through the router with a PPPoE connection
