I currently have three Armada's. I put XP on one - ran like kukua until I upped the memory. I think I put in a gig or 2. I found mine at www.4allmemory.com though this is not the only place in the world to get it. I put a new battery in the same computer. So, now I'm invested about $250.00 over the original investment. Frankly, I am disappointed when comparing the Armada to my new Acer Aspire 1. Pound for pound, the Acer is the better investment.

Yet... If you can live with W98, Second Ed. (which is really a better option for this particular computer), the Armada will travel, communicate, browse, e-mail, write notes and letters with the best of them. It is also very classy!

I have not had the machine open. I seem to recall that the processor can be changed ... but to what point? You will not get to anything current except for the cost! I also changed the keyboard on the Armada I use from time to time. I originally had 6 Armada's.

You may want to visit www.pcpitstop.com and have your Armada scanned for free. They will have suggestions for upgradability and they will recommend sources for you to consider.

It Ended up being very simple. I simply found a Dynamic drive Overlay Software and all works fine

yes, aslong you have USB port or PCMCIA card slot
if your compaq armada m700 is the p III series it's alot better

First, format the hard drive and make sure it is in FAT or FAT32 for Windows 98 install. Then do your partitioning etc and should work. If it doesn't, it is possibly a hardware fault.

No you cant upgrade your processor.
also to change processor is very complicated in a old compaq.
and if you should manage to find a faster processor to your old compaq it not gonna make your laptop faster. the mother board and ram memory are still to old.

Id def try a bigger hard drive, chances are your processor, ram and hard drive arent good enough for xp, or if possible try to instal win 98 just to rule out other hardware problens, i really think that the pc is not going to handle xp very well to be honest.
