Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Open Question

Does the Xerox M20i copier have a hard drive or flash drive in the back? I opened the back panel and do not see any drives or IDE/SATA connections on the main board to lead me to believe that there is a storage drive in there. If there is a drive, where is it located? Either way, please confirm. Thanks in advance!

SOURCE: Sata , ide

Initially connect only the sata drive from which you want to boot the OS. Establish the OS successful operation from this drive. Then connect the remaining drives in conventional way or the RAID array you want to have.

SOURCE: extremely slow transfer speeds from IDE hard drive to Sata

Yes, I'm afraid it's some form of difficulty in sending files from the SATA data-stream to the IDE ATA drive. It may be motherboard-specific, I don't really know. However attempting to send data between SATA and ATA drives is as I described above. Sending an 18-wheeler down a two-way highway and having the truck make a U-turn to reach the opposite drive.

Sorry I can't confirm if it's motherboard specific, I'm limited in that field of knowledge.

SOURCE: run a sata drive as main boot up drive

XP installation does not have SATA drivers.
You need to have the SATA driver on a floppy disk and during the XP installation press F6 to install the SATA driver.
The other alternative is to change the BIOS configuration and set the disk controller to IDE or SATA native driver, then install XP.
After Windows installation then install the SATA driver.
Download the driver from the motherboard WEB site.

You should check what kind of hard drive is using your computer. If it has less then 5 years probably hard drives are sata.

Power supply

You need to perform a quick check of the following steps for us to understand the exact status of your SMPS(power supply) and Motherboard

1) Open the CPU and check whether the green light is glowing on the motherboard when power is given to SMPS.

2) Please make sure that the HDD IDE/SATA and power cables are plugged in properly on both ends.Use common sense to check, do not press very hard as the slots are sensitive.
3) Make sure that all the CD/DVD drives are on IDE 2 or on SATA
4) Make sure that the Jumper setting on the back of the HDD is set to MASTER. NA for SATA.
5) Login to bios and make see if you can find the HDD from the drives menu. From Boot menu select the NATIVE mode that will activate both the SATA and the IDE channels.

If you feel that, my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

Thanks.

How do you connect two hard drives to a computer?

1. For SATA, you just need a second SATA cable to plug it in and a power cable from the power supply.
2. For IDE, you will need a second IDE cable to plug the second hard drive, AND you will have to set both hard drives jumpers either to cable select or one Master and the other one Slave, based on which one you have the operating system.

Can i use a sata hard drive with my ga 7vklm mobo

The Gigabyte GA-7VKMP motherboard does not support serial ATA SATA drives. Open the link provided; http://tw2005.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Products/Products_GA-7VKMP.htm
2 x ATA 66/100/133 bus master IDE ports
1 x FDD, 2 x HDD and 1 x CD audio input
IrDA(1x5) and COM2 on board
GBT standard front panel
2 x USB2.0 connectors (support 4 ports by cable)

You can connect the adapter below to an opened IDE port and connect a SATA 1.5 drive to your system.
http://www.satagear.com/SATA-MM-A1_SATA_Adapter.html
This should allow you're SATA drive to transfer data faster than the 133MHz standard IDE speed.

Connecting new hard drive

If the old one is still conected you can connect it the same way if not here is how to::

Well firstly they are 2 types IDE (large connector) and SATA (small connector)

IDE

of an ide cable has 3 jacks 1 for the main board and 2 for IDE drives
2 drive must be set to master and the other to slave
Set the drives by using the jumper on the back the instructions are written on the drives
Connect the Ide Cable and then the power and turn you system on

IF ITS SATA
connect the sata cable to both hard drive and main board
connect the power cable and your done!!

NB:: sata ports are labeled SATA 1 SATA 2 etc

IDE are LABELED IDE 1 IDE 2

Ide is a large grey cable black connector SATA is usually orange or red and small

Motherboard problem

Hi Conor, every SATA drive is a master drive. With that in mind you're SATA must have windows installed on it. Please disconnect the data cable & power cable's from the IDE drives.
(Do not reconnect either IDE untill you have finished).
Install windows on the SATA drive. Install all the needed drivers, than update windows. When finished Check the pin setting on the IDE drives. Set one as the "master with a slave" & the other as the slave. Than you can add both into the system. If you had windows on one of the IDE's just delete the root files on that drive so it does not conflict with the new windows on the SATA drive. Go in the bios make sure you have the SATA drive as the boot drive & not either of the IDE drives. If the system still shuts down after all this, try replacing the data cable for the IDE drives (Both should be on the same data cable). Swap the power connector from the CD-ROM drive to the IDE.
Next, if you're system still shuts down after adding either of the IDE drives, than swap the ports. Connect the CD-ROM to the primary IDE port on the board & the IDE hard drive to the IDE slave port. (This is for testing only). Double check all power connections from the power supply to the motherboard. Leave the case opened. Look at the board when booted. Watch for the the case LED's lighting up & flashing cr-rom's LED flashes, look at the CPU fan. Make sure all fan's are running & listen for the drives running.
Let me know if anything changed or not. Post any thing odd or if any thing did or didn't work & I'll go from there. Everything is a test & error soulation. One change at a time.

It looks like there's an empty drive bay in my Gateway GM5446E Core-2 Duo desktop computer. I happen to have a spare Western Digital 500 GB Caviar drive. Can I use 2 hard drives in this machine?

You should be able to - but just as important as an open bay, is a connection to the motherboard and power is necessary. It would also matter which type of drive you have, IDE or SATA. If Sata, and the computer has Sata power, it should be a simple matter to add a Sata cable to an open connector on the motherboard. If IDE, you'd either need to have an open IDE port on the motherboard, or an open connection on an IDE cable. If there is no open port, but an open connection, you'd just have to set the drive to be the Slave, and it should otherwise work fine.

Realize you will probably need to partition and format the hard drive for the system to be able to utilize it.
