Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Whirlpool ED5FHGXKQ00 My refridgerator has been running fine for the last 7 years until last week. The week before that, I had a huge ant problem and so the exterminator came out to spray them. In the past, I have had ants crawling out of the electrical socket and short a window fan. Anyway, a few days ago, when I woke up, I smell smoke and saw smoke. Went downstair and try to pinpoint the location and at the time, I could not pinpoint it. Came home yesterday, all the ice from the freezer has melted in my kitchen floor. So, I knew at this point the burn smell is from the frigde. I open up the back and check out and found out that the overload switch has been burned. That is part 12, 13, 16 from this picture. http://www.partstap.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=264129 So, I know I can simply replace this but want to make sure to understand why it burned out in the first place. I called a technicial to come out and he said as long as the compressor is fine, those parts from above just need to be replaced. He told me it is from wear and tear. Cost is $238. My questions are now: -Is it just as simple as what he said? Could there be a reason why it burned like that? Could it be the ants? -Replacing the part seems very easy. He is charging me almost 3x the part charges. I was the one that took the fridge apart and pinpoint the location. He was just comfirming that the compressor is still working fine. Is it as easy as it seems? -Where can I find a whirlpool part dealership if I do not want to buy the parts online? -Is there anything else I should be checking? Thank You

I have a side by side Whirlpool fridge and the ice maker is not working. If I have it turned on (lever down) and door is closed and water leaks out the front of the ice dispenser and it doesn't seem to...

How old is the fridge? Mine lieterally caught on fire at the start device last weekend. My fridge was manufactured in July 2001. Be careful, The fridge I have is model# ED5FHGXKQ00. I am currently requesting a recall be made by Whirlpool on this appliance.
Other than that it could just be that the ice maker line has frozen or the "arm" in the ice chest is stuck and can't raise itself to pump water directly into the ice trays. Either way be very careful. I hope this was helpful.

Refridgerator is not blowing out cold air.

Inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel there is a defrost timer. There also should be a small opening to turn the timer clockwise slowly until you hear refrigerator compressor stop running. The timer if working properly should return the refrigerator to operating after about 20 minutes. If not I believe the timer may be defective and need be replaced. Try this first and let me know, Thanks, Sea breeze

Freezer leaking on Ge Profile

The drain is frozen over and water cannot escape when it defrosts. You will need to remove the back panel inside the freezer and run some hot water down the drain until it has thawed. Hope this helps

If the compressor has a fan next to it, be sure it is running. if the relay is clicking every few minutes it may need to be replced. contact local parts distributor.
