Re: Sync adapter

Yes, the use of safe sync adapters will not affect the camera's ability to provide the proper switching voltage.

Is it possible to use the Cobra Auto Thiristor Auto 250, with my Nikon D7000

NO!!!
Using this flash with your Nikon will likely damage the camera.

If you really want to use this flash, you need to isolate it from the camera using something like this: Wein Safe Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe High Voltage Sync Regulator SSHSHS

Hotshoe and sync cable will not fire strobs. However, if I connect the sync cord via my SB800 the strobe will fire.... Help :D

What strobe are you using besides the SB800? Probably the best solution is to use a hotshoe extender for the mystery strobe (like an SC-15), and then set the SB800 in SU-4 mode (i.e. fire when any other strobe around it fires).
Sounds like the mystery strobe isn't triggering correctly with the sync signal that the body is giving through your adapter.

Can I use a SUNPACK auto 144PC flash with my Nikon D90?

Yes... probably. The 144PC's trigger voltage has been measured in the 5.8 to 7V range, which is a bit on the high side without quite being dangerous. If you want to be safe, use something like a Wein Safe Sync (http://www.adorama.com/WNSSHSHS.html) to isolate the camera from the flash.

Can I use my old auto thyristor 550FD on my new Nikon D90 DSLR

No. The high trigger voltage in your old unit will damage your D90 for certain.

You need to get a newer flash (US=strobe) designed for digital cameras but don't have to stick to Nikon's overpriced offerings. Metz are excellent and have a high resale value as you can change the dedication model to suit different manufacturers.

You can get an AS-15 Sync Terminal Adapter from your favorite Nikon dealer, which slips into the hot shoe and provides a sync terminal.

Failure of flash sync in F828?

I experience similar failure sometimes. I un-mount the flash (or adapter) from the hot shoe and put it back, and am back in business. The reason is, at least in my case. loose contact, resulting from movement of the flash/adapter in the shoe.

Studio Strobe not firing with Coolpix

The Coolpix line of cameras require a "tip positive" sync connection to an external strobe unit (when using the Nikon AS-15 Flash Sync Adapter). On some external Studio Strobe units the sync polarity is easy to change because of the type of plug: On this type of connector simply turn the plug around and insert it with the male pin connectors in the other holes. Other types of connectors (such as the standard "phono" plug) are not generally changeable by the user. If the Coolpix does not fire an external strobe check with the strobe manufacturer for sync polarity info.
