Yes, when your router gets old it really get slow, you can try to load a updated firmware to this router and that should help for this concern, You can also contact Linksys tech support for further help this is the number 800-3267114.

Hope that helps........

Internet connot display web page all the time , and slow download speeds, modem adsl light coming on constantly.

Dealt with a lot of these. It is either :

1. Wrong password and ISP information - double check that everything your ISP has asked you to put in is correct

2. Bad phone connection - even if the ADSL light comes on (which means the router can see an ADSL connection from your phone provider) does not mean the line is clean. Pull out all the connections to your home phone, and just plug in the router to get it all up and running. Once happy reconnect one at a time all phones, digi boxes etc.

3. Adding to 2. - have you got a splitter? If so, change your splitter or reconnect, splitters can fail quite easily and get old fast - a bad splitter creates a lot of noise on the line, making the internet time out

It could be a router fault, they last about 4 years before they start doing silly things. But likely one of the above.

Try two sites once you are happy :

www.speedtest.net - to check your connection speed
www.pingtest.net - to check line quality

Hi, I experience also performance issues with the VSG 1200. Did you found a solution in the meantime? I already have the latest firmware installed. I notice that within the internal LAN ping times are sometimes too high to the device

Im not sure how to forward ports so i can download faster, at the moment im going at a slow 0.5KB/s ..... very rarely it jumps to 150 KB/s for a few secodns then falls back down again, peopel tell me to...

The speed of the download depends on how fast the computer that is holding the file(s) that you want can "send" the files.

Imagine one fast-food worker trying to serve 8 or 32 customers at the same time -- no matter how fast the worker is, everybody will get "slow" service. There's nothing you can do, at the order-pickup desk, to get "faster" service.

Similarly, "port-forwarding" is not the CORRECT answer to your downloading problem.

If you try to download something from a "fast" server (e.g., the latest version of Apple iTunes software), do you get "good" download speeds? If so, your computer and your router are working fine.

Incredibly slow wireless connection when DSL connection is fine.

anytime you transmit wireless and connect wireless you loose speed. a lot of routers have a buffer in them to regain the transmision speeds. the antennae needs to be at a 45 degree angle as well for best transmission and tight. there maybe static in the lines called ingress. a bad connector or a radio shack splitter will kill off hsi. make sure your splitter is over 1000 mhz. the 900mhz are garbage. your netgear may also be the problem, and may be subject to warranty replacement.. it is very common. i install netgear wireless daily and i have seen brand new out of the box fail. also like my wife, she forgets to remove the torrent files from the vuze downloader and ends up seeding 20 albums which slows us down bigtime.

Slow or no wireless speed, connection says excellent

Your router may be toast but here are a couple of things to try:
Please remember, I'm guessing here...

Before restoring to factory defaults, make sure you can get to the config pages using the rj45 (wired) ports. Do a speed test with a wired connection at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

1. try removing all security. No WEP or WPK. Also, use no mac address filtering. See if it speeds up. Go back to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and try speed testing the wireless portion of your router..

2. If it has automatic channel selection, this may be acting up. So manually select channels. Then do speed tests at the web site (or any speed test web site of your chosing). You may find a screaming fast channel.

3. If this fails to help, use the reset to factory default button. Try setting up the router with NO security first and do speed tests. Use automatic channel selection first, do speed tests, and if all else fails, you can try manually selecting channels again. If the router works well, you might want to set up security again and retest.

4. If all this fails, buy yourself a new wireless 802.11N - (N1) router. They are screamin' fast and have better range.

Fast Page Loads Slow Downloads

it really depends on how far you are from your Router. The farther you go, the weaker the signal gets resulting in slower speeds. Slower speeds will not affect web page load times (they are tiny parts of data) but will definately affect download speeds. You need to be as close to the router as possible or get perfect range. You can put the router at higher elevation in the room to get a better range to start with. Let me know if this works for you.
