Do you want to remove Vista and install XP? Quite a few times this doesn't work out entirely as there may be hardware in your PC that is only designed for Vista.

With this in mind you would normally contact tech support over the phone for instructions.

Sorry, can't help you out more without knowing what PC Maker you have and what Model Number. The model number is on the back of the Case and varies from the Model Name.

I installed 4 Gig of RAM memory but only 3.25 shows up.\r\nis there a test I can run to see if the memory cards are working correctly? Thanks. Paul

It sounds like you are running a 32 bit operating system XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (32).
The 32 bit Operating Systems are only able to see and use about 3Gb of RAM. To use a greater amount you will need a 64 bit OS (either Windows XP/64 or Windows 7/64) or one of the open source 64 bit operating systems.

Can i use an external hard drive to run an operating system (XP)

Yes. You can run an OS from an external hard drive. You have to install the OS to the External hard drive and will have to boot from the USB. I have tried that for Fedora Linux OS but not for XP. Basically all Operating systems boots up in the same manner. So definitely, its possible with windows XP also.

Cyclic boot and reboot after installing SP2

If you have the Windows XP recovery disk you should boot into the disk and do a repair install of the Windows OS. You can also press 'F8' before or right after the Windows XP splash screen comes up and tell it to either boot into Safe Mode or "Boot with last configuration that worked". If you boot into safe mode, go to control panel and programs and uninstall the sp2 installation. Please comment back if you need further assistance. I will be providing a How-To on how to recover a system using system CDs today.

Good Luck,
