Ooh.. I have a 50/50 shot at getting this right without reading the manual or going onto ASUS' website and looking it up!

I'll say.... no? DDR2 memory sounds quite new, and my board only just supports 1066Mhz RAM. Your mainboard sounds a bit old.

Let me know if i'm right!

Seriously though, I went to www.asus.com, then typed your motherboard in, and then clicked on it.

Here is what it has to say:
- Dual-channel DDR2 800/667/533
I win!

You should get a quad core processor, with a minimum of 3 to 4 gigs of ram, and an asus SLI or crossfire Motherboard. This and a nice 1 terrabite drive can be done for under $500.00, unfoutunatelly, thats just the way they make it. I PLAY cod4, and I run a dual core with 2 gigs of ram and a $300.00 asus MB, with twin 7900 video cards in sli. and it just about runs it, the new games are processor and ram intense, let alone video cards. I would suggest a single card if cost is a factor, you can always add a second or even a third card later. But the you don't want to be the slowest guy playing, especially if you like first person multiplayer shooters

New computer won't boot -

I had a similar problem with asus. 1) check online that the motherboard supports that cpu. Mine did not. I had to return it. 2) try the memory in different slots and combinations 3) try a different video card 4) check the CMOS clear jumper os properly set to disabled. Set it to enabled (power off first) 1 time to clear it. reset jumper back to disabled, and power on as usual. I'd suspect the motherboard needs to be flashed, but you obviously cannot flash it without it working... return it to point of purchase, or have them flash it and show you that it's working with your processor before you bring it back home.

How to upgrade processor on ASUS A7A266 motherboard?

looking at this old motherboard the 2400 is unlikely to work, the motherboard has a cpu fsb support of 133mhz and supports the duron processors.

Upgrading motherboard

Dual graphic cards aka SLI require a SLI Power Supply. This is a good option if you want to start building a new system. Another option is just to get the new Nvidia 280 graphic card. Check out Tomshardware.com for a killer article on the latest graphic cards.

2 much memory?

First make sure your motherboard can handle the size memory stick you are attempting to install, find out the Max amount of RAM the board can handle per slot. If you are within the range then do a memory test after it is installed to see if the memory is good or has issues. Check out http://www.memtest86.com/ for a bootable memory test program.

Memory Upgrade and Computer will not boot

You need to do a BIOS Upgrade. First get the name of your BIOS when the computer boots up. Then go to the we site and find your BIOS brand and get a version update or upgrade.

Be VERY careful and follow the directons to the letter.

Let me know if this helps.
