Cannot download photos to my pc

For the camera to be 'recognised' by Windows, you need an USB port with a correct driver installed (should be automatically in Win XP SP2 and later, Vista, Win7, ...)
Then you need a 'good' (tested) USB cable to connect to the PC.
The OS should detect a new USB device after connection of the camera AT the MOMENT the camera is switched ON ...

The emachine model KAWE0 is with operating system windows xp sp1 doesnot recognise any usb device.

Good day sir, hi, usually its one or two ports that does not recorgnise a usb device, but if all ports does not recognise the usb device, check the CMOS setup. check this out;
  • one or two ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a local fault, try to check the CMOS setup, this could also be the port itself is the faulty one having loose connection.
  • all ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a system fault, check again the CMOS setup if the USB port is enabled, check the USB device itself also. to make sure use another pc to test the usb device.
A computer virus can also cause the usb port to malfunction, run an anti virus software, if possible you can reinstall the XP and test the USB port afterward.

If all else fails, you can buy a USB card and plug it on the expansion slot on your PC.

If you are using Windows XP unplug your camera from your PC and uninstall the Kodak software. You don't need it to transfer photos to your PC. The next time you connect your camera (turn the camera on) to your computer it should recognize it and you can use Windows built in transfer software. What is ptp utility new to me. I suggest the first thing to do is if you have the software from the disk loaded - you un install it. Restart the computer - plug camera in and set it to upload mode. Windows scanner/Camera Wizard will take you along from there. If it does not change the USB port. Come back with the next move

Hi, Since videos are taped in DV format, you need a firewire card (IEEE-1394) and cable. These are cheap. May be your PC already has a firewire card. Just check. Windows XP recognises automatically the camcorder. Moreover, its integrated video capture/editing module, Windows Movie Maker, is very userfriendly. USB connection is only good for downloading still images (photos) to your PC. For more information, go to http://www.videohelp.com/. good luck
