Good Morning!
The unit is a Heat Controller, Inc mini split system, mod # hmc24as. There is a dead short in the outside unit. I have limited it down to the leads going to the compressor. As long as those leads are disconnected from the capacitor and the terminal strip the short is clear and the breaker does not trip. I visually examined the wires going to the compressor and did not see any breaks or damages in the insulation. Does this mean that the compressor is bad? Are there other possibilities?
Thanks! Carol

There are many factors in these mini splits. Was it working previously? If it is a new install it could be a long line set, low on refrigerant While in heating go outside and feel the bigger of the two coper lines that should be warm to the touch. Force it into cooling and a good P.S.I.G. is 125 on the service port. Last, did tke line set get kinked? So if in cool you have 125 psig. In heat you have a warm line on the fat coper line at the outsid unit, no kinks and a short line set, Time to call a service technician out.
You should check the fuses and breakers it might not be something that expensive, it could also be the controller for the outside unit that is bad. Google kllimare dealers and your zipcode.
First check your circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to the outside unit. It's probably separate from the inside unit. Then try to turn unit on. If the fan and compressor just make a humming sound then turn it off and check the capacitor if you have a multimeter. You can also look at it and see if the top looks expanded. That's a good sign its bad, but not all bad one's look expanded. Tomorrow I will have access to an LG service manual and can let you know what the code means. Sorry I can't get it sooner. Let me know what you find.
P 4 code means problem with the outdoor unit, Most likely low on refrigerant. Check all copper pipe connections for leaks first, then add refrigerant after checking pressures.
had the samething. 2 blown capacitors on that middle board. got new capacitors and system was back online. check out digikey electronics and order your new capacitors. hope nothing else is wrong with the board.
Wash out your outside coil and monitor the outside fan. sounds like a lockout due to dirty condenser or intermittent motor operation. Could mean condencer air problem.
