Re: "Nikon software does not run on this Operating...

When attempting to install Nikon Capture or PictureProject on certain Windows 98SE systems the following error messages may present themselves: This message is caused by the registry key value for the "SubVersionNumber" on the version of Windows. If the system contains SubVersionNumber "B" Nikon Capture and PictureProject will not install on the system. Below are instructions on how to manually edit the System Registry to change the SubVersionNumber Registry Key to allow for Nikon Capture and Picture Project to install. Manually editing the System Registry requires vigilance and care because a mistake could cause errors with the System. Be extremely careful when editing these keys. Nikon is not responsible for any loss due to problems with registry key editing. To manually edit the System’s Registry: 1) Quit all running applications 2) Click on "Start" then "Run…" Type the following in the run command line: "regedit" 3) Click "OK" and the registry editor will open 4) Click "Edit" from the menu bar and choose "Find" 5) Type "4.10.2222" into the "Find What:" field 6) Click "Find Next" The results will appear in the column on the right. The Version Number will be highlighted. 7) Click on "SubVersionNumber" once. 8) Go to "Edit" on the menu bar and choose "Modify" 9) The current Value data will read B. 10) Change "Value data" to " A" (MAKE SURE THERE IS A SPACE BEFORE THE A) 11) Go to "Registry" in the menu bar and choose "Exit" 12) Confirm the change has taken effect. Right-click on "My Computer", choose "Properties". 13) The version value should reflect "4.10.2222 A" Nikon Capture and Picture Project can now be installed and run on this system.

I got message "system error

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) [/*]
  2. Remove and replace the battery [/*]

Nikon Capture NX will not open black and white jpegs

Nikon Capture when initially installed you have to tell it what types of files to open.... IT has 3 tick boxes for NEF (Nikon Raw Files), TIFF, & JPEg, you actually have to tell it which types you want NX to open. The easiest way to fix the problem maybe to reinstall the program and reset the file association as you install it. Hope this may  help.

Can not run Nikon Capture 3 - "Updated Driver Required"

Under some limited conditions, Nikon Capture 3 will fail to launch after the initial installation and you will not be presented with the opening dialog which allows you to select either "Trial" mode or be permitted to enter your serial key. A dialog box is displayed indicating that updated drivers are required, but the names of these drivers are not listed. This installer replaces two files with updated versions which resolves this issue and allows Nikon Capture 3 to launch. Do not install this update if you are already running Nikon Capture in trial or registered mode. This update is not required for any version of Nikon Capture other than 3.0. This updater is not needed for Macintosh users. After downloading and decompressing, double click the "Setup" application to install. http://www.nikonusa.com/software/Cap3update.zip

Missing "imagehlp.dll" error on installation

Uninstalling other makers software may remove a system file which prevents installation of Coolpix drivers from the Nikon View v5.1 CD on Windows 98SE systems. It has been reported that, when connecting a Coolpix camera to a Windows 98SE machine, the hardware wizard will not recognize the appropriate driver; this setup fails because the file "IMAGEHLP.DLL" is missing from the system. Installation will stop with an error message which mentions this file. This problem may be caused by the earlier removal of another makers software from the operating system. To solve the problem, first disconnect the camera then follow these instructions to copy the appropriate file from the Win98SE CD back to the correct directory on your computer: Place the Win98SE CDROM in the CD-ROM drive. From the Start Menu select Run, type in SFC.EXE. Select "Extract a single file". Type in IMAGEHLP.DLL to the field provided. Click start. When the next dialogue box appears click "skip". This dialog box appears: Where e:\WIN98\ should be the Win98SE CD-ROM (your CD-ROM drive may use another letter other than "e"). Copy the file to the same destination shown and a screen will appear showing that "File has been successfully extracted". Next, remove the Win98SE CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive and replace the Nikon View 5 CD in the CD-ROM drive. Reconnect the camera. The hardware wizard should automatically detect the camera and install the driver from the Nikon View 5 CD.

Problem installing Nikon View - "Locale does not match" error

When the Nikon installer runs it checks for certain files before performing the update. If it cannot find the require files it displays the "...locale does not match..." error. Verify the following if you experience this problem: Be sure that both the original Nikon View install and the new Nikon View/Capture Updater were both downloaded from the Nikon USA web site. There are known issues when two different regions are used for downloading the software. If either were downloaded from the incorrect web site re-download from the Nikon USA Technical KDB Download Page. http://www.nikonusa.com/software Verify that the installation was run while booted into Mac OS X. You CAN NOT install while booted into OS 9 and simply copy the application to the OS X "Applications" folder. Use the "System Preferences" (OS X) or "Control Panels" (OS 9) and "Startup Disk" to start up in OS X and then install Nikon View and Capture and then after restarting run the combined updater.

Nikon Capture 3 and Mac OS X 10.2 Installer Issue

On Friday August 23, 2002 Apple released an updated version (Mac OS 10.2) to the Mac operating system. While we are NOT yet announcing compatibility information we do have the following information regarding one issue. Mac OS X has a built-in feature that scans items as they are installed to check for security issues. When Nikon Capture 3.0 is installed the dialog box below will display indicating a possible issue. If the user clicks "Fix and Use" the dialog will be dismissed and the application will run as expected. If the "Use" button is clicked the application will run fine untilthe Mac has been restarted at which time the same dialog will appear. If "Don't Use" is clicked Capture 3 can not be started. A future version of the Nikon Capture installer will prevent this. As compatibility and usage information is available I will update you on Nikon software and OS compatibility.
