Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

EMachines PC that has not yet been thrown out the window, but....

I have tried another monitor - same story. My problem started with a power blink. The computer shut down and then rebooted, but the only thing we got was the Windows XP landscape with the emachines logo. I can't get to my BIOS - tried F1, F2, Del, F8. I have tried the recovery discs and I have tried my Windows XP Professional (this computer has XP Home, but did not come with disc).

Then we started with the monitor issue that you have already read about.

What do you think my problem is?

If this computer came with XP Home, and you don't have a disc, then they would have put the restore files in a separate partition on the hard drive. Do you have the manual for the pc? It's possible to recover your system without losing everything. What happened when you used the recovery disks and XP Pro?

My modem blinks off and on , when my pc is idle. Is that normal? and where could I buy a book on info on e-machines? When my monitor goes dark, then my modem starts blinking off and on. My computer is...

your modem is always talking to your service even when not connected to your pc it is just showing that it is working. Emachine manuals are a little hard to find, your best bet is to contact the store where you bought it, I know Best Buy used to sell the, they may have a manual, and you could try contacting emachines directly.

Replaced Mainboard on Emachine w3653, keeps restarting

If it reboots before you make the Windows load screen, chances are it's the power supply. You can go into the BIOS, look at the power setup and with most BIOS's you can watch the DC supplies. If they vary like mad while you're doing this (with the PC effectively in idle), either something is loading down the power supply or it's defective.

If it gets to the Windows startup screen and starts to load, then reboots, it's probably a defective RAM chip.

Green Power light blinking

Check the resolution in the Windows while connected to the old monitor. If greater than 1280 X 1024 and/or the refresh rate exceeds 75 Hz, the monitor may not respond. But you should at least see the BIOS splash when the computer is turned on. If that does not appear, maybe a problem has occurred in the monitor. Another indicator: if you turn the monitor power button off and then back on, you should get some sign of life such as "no signal", or "out of range". If nothing appears, that would indicate some problem within the monitor.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

Still having trouble with EMachines T3882

I feel your pain. I finally moved my pc to a room with no windows! But seriously, try a different monitor first. See if you can borrow someone's to just try it before you do anything else. If that borrowed monitor works fine, then you know what the problem is. (Which I believe is the problem.) By the way, what started all of your problems?

Monitor is busted!

If your pc works on another monitor. I would recommend you buy a new LCD monitor or a used CRT.

The best solution if your computer works is to buy a LCD screen, I've thrown out my 17" crt screens they aren't worth anything these days. You can get a used crt from ebay

Over here where I live I bought a used crt for 25usd thats was over a year ago.

Theres really no point in trying to repair the screen if its broken, buy a working one or a brand new lcd.

Good luck.
