Question about Yamaha GO46 Sound Card

1 Answer

Yamaha GO46 firewire audio interface

Have htis unit hooked up to a Mac G5 with a firewire. The headphones jack on the front of the unit is not playing at all during playback, and it only monitors an individual channel while recording, even when mono is selected in the track info pane (using Garage band). The 1/8" headphone jack on the back of the mac works fine, monitors and plays back. Then GO46 manual is useless. somewhere online it mentions controling the headphone jack from the GO46 control panel but nothing has worked so far. need to figure out if theunit is defective so it can be returned in time, or if there is a setting that I haven't figured out. The GO46 soundcard I have entered in the product field is the only thing I could enter as a vailid product number. What I have is the Yamaha GO46 audio interface.

Hi. It might be a bit late, but the solution to your problem is the fact that the phones level is dependent on output 3-4. If you turn 3-4 all the way up you should be able to hear something. You might want to route all the outputs to the digital mixer.

Its all about the quality of the converter in the Headphone unit.

If the quality is lower than the quality of the converter in the receiver, then using the head jack is a better idea. Since there is more room, power, and money going into the receiver, it may be better

I do not believe that there is a cheap way to connect to the headphone with optical audio

The only way to be sure though, is to test it and see. Connect your computer to the receiver with HDMI, play audio through, and compare it to when you just connect your computer to the headphones, via optical audio

try hooking headphones to the output and see if the crackling is still there.

then, try it with the speakers, at a lower computer voume level and higher speaker volume level. perhaps the headphone output is too loud and distorting in the speaker inputs.

My Apple G5 and WD Passport 500Gb don't mount

You need to determine whether the problem is at the disk interface or at the computer interface. Will the drive mount on ANOTHER machine using FireWire? Will your computer mount ANOTHER device using FireWire? This will tell you which machine is at fault. It's not unheard of for the FireWire channels in a Mac to just go bad, and (unless it is a Mac Pro) it typically requires a logic board replacement to address. For a G5, this would not be cost-effective. On the other hand, as I say, it could just be a bad interface in the drive itself. It's up to you to determine which it is.

Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 sound output

This is just how it works. The headphone jack on Macs is dual-purpose. If you plug in a mini-Toslink cable (like you have) it automatically sends the sound through that & increases the computer's volume to maximum. When you unplug the Toslink, the laser will still shine for a brief moment (but then it does go off). So, there is no way to keep the Toslink plugged-in AND utilize the built-in audio at the same time.

Yamaha GO46 is not recognized as an audio device - wdm driver not instaled properly

get a new soundcard GO46 is a bag of trouble. I had to get a special Firewire Card with a Texas Instrument chip, since the cheap internal firewire interfaces don't work with this card. Also make sure you are not running XP64, since it is not supported. good luck

Connecting Yamaha piano (YDP-131) to imac g5

You want to go into your AUDIO/MIDI set up in OS X. Selet the unit. YOu have a MAC so most itmes dont needs drivers, its one of the many great things that separate that operating systems from say windows. Also your yamaha may be CLASS COMPLIANT, which means plug and play no matter what computer you are using.

What you should do is make sure the keyboard is set to send on the same channel as garageband is set to receive.

Keep me posted.

Powerbook doesn't recognize Yamaha GO46 FW interface

Hello. I had the same problem and solved by mere casuality. If you disconnect the AC power adaptor and let the Firewire connection to be the only power supplier, then the GO46 will be inmediately recognised by the "Preferences -> Sound" panel of the G4.

Hope I've been helpful. Bye.
