The safe comes with 2 extra keys you can use if the battery fails. Also, if you cannot find the keys, there is an included battery backup box which you can connect to the Biometric Lock and used to open the safe. To enter safe mode, At boot start tapping F-8. Or, Unplug, while running, remove battery, plug in, reboot, a list should come up select safe mode with networking. OR, while running open MSCONFIG, by opening RUN and typing MSCONFIG and OK, select Boot Tab, Safe boot, restart. Try Running Command Prompt, as Administrator, type sfc /scannow.
if you know the battery is low then you need to open your safe using the keys and then change your batteries as the safe won't open using your 3 digit code if the batteries are low.
You can try booting into safe mode to see if there is a problem with a program/driver/setting in windows. First shut off the machine completely. Then after the first logo screen goes away start tapping F8 about every second until you see a new menu screen. It will have options like Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, etc. Use the arrow key on your keyboard to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Then hit enter.
You may have to hit enter again to select your operating system, but usually it just flashes text across the screen then comes to the Welcome screen with Administrator and your username.
Click on your username to log in. Click OK on the warning message that pops up, it just explains safe mode.
Try opening word and your paper, and see if you can work.
If so, then you need to figure out which driver or program you recently updated, and roll it back or uninstall it.

My battery had the same issue. I opened the WA3218 battery box and found one of the two 12V 10AH batteries had overheated due to an internal hot spot. You can either buy a new WA3218 battery from Sears for about $82 or if you are a handyman save a few bucks and change the two Model 6 DZM -10 batteries for new ones at about $25 each. Need to change both at the same time. The battery wires are soldered. Either cut them off and crimp on new HD yellow terminals or un-solder & re-solder them. I found a 12V 15AH replacement (50 % more capacity) model UBS12150 which will fit inside the battery box for about $37.50 ea. Peter
1) look again for the key
2) call a lock smith
3) drill the lock
these safes arent expensive , cheaper to drill the lock and replace that a lock smith , but get a quote
Check batteries and replace, also make sure contacts for batteries in the safe are clean and not correded with rust, if so rub with sandpaper and clean up.
