Getting warm around the door is OK but getting hot around door indicates a restriction of the airflow below your refrigerator. The compressor produces hot Freon that is pumped out the discharge side of compressor. On many refrigerators the gas goes to the yoder Condenser Loop first and then cooled by the condenser fan motor before going to the freezer section as a liquid.

my side side frige is - sea_breeze_206.jpg

Anything restricting that airflow will cause the yoder loop to get hotter. Example a defective condenser fan, dusty conditions below refrigerator or room temperatures way above normal for a kitchen or room inside your home. Insure fan stays on when compressor runs because a defective condenser fan does not always stop when defective. Most refrigerators work best with room temperatures in mid 70's to middle 80's. Making sure that airflow is good, fan's stay on with compressor and room temperatures stay in the normal range is important to keep those temperatures lower in the yoder loop. SOURCE: Heat in center piece

First clean the condensor coil. it will either be under the fridge behind the toe grill or in the back of the machine behind the rear cover depending on the make and model of your fridge. You will also want to make sure the condensor fan is running. It will be located behind the cover at the back of the unit near the compressor. Post back with the complete model and serial numbers from the fridge if you need any more help.
Thanks, Mike

Freezer not sending cold air to the Frige area.

The interior light in most refrigerators, and the fan in some, is controlled by a door switch. When the door is closed, the switch is depressed and the interior light goes off and the fan resumes normal operation. If the door is misaligned or the switch malfunctions, the refrigerator may become warm as a result of the non-operation of the evaporator fan and the heat generated by the interior light. Test the switch for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to zero when the probes touch the terminals. With the probes still touching the terminals depress the switch, the reading should change back to infinity. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.

((If the switch is ok, and it passes the test, simply replace the fan)).

My frige stays warm all the time it is a Hotpoint

evaporator coils are iced up on the freezer side. either take everything out of the fridge and unplug it and let it sit for a day to defrost, or remove the inside rear panel where there is frost and (with the fridge off) use warm water sprayed on the ice to defrost it (or use a hair dryer, but just until the ice is melted. do not overheat the metal). soak up the excess water (underneath the fridge, too), and turn it on empty. let it run empty for a day to get it cold, then put the stuff back in. if the stuff is in there when it's warm, the humidity will ice up the coils again.

Mullion between freezer and refrigerator is extremely hot.

They rarely use 'heaters' anymore. If there is a heater there will be somthing like a 'energy saver' option to turn it off. More likely it is a mullion loop that is part of the sealed system tubing. The harder the frige works the hotter that area will be. So if the inside temp rises so will the temperature of the mullion. Start by checking your frige and freezer temperatures with a thermometer. The freezer should be between 5-10 deg ABOVE zero and the frige should be about 35 or 36 deg. Also check that the condenser is not dirty. The condenser is the coils that are usually underneath the frige. They should be cleaned at least annually. Also while you're under there make sure the condenser fan is running. You should feel a little air movement and possibly hear it running from the front under the doors. If it's not running you'll need to find out why, but would usually be a problem with the motor. Also there was a carboard panel on the back at the bottom of the frige from the factory, that panel HAS to be in place to direct air across the condenser and not back behind the frige.

Frige is not cooling

Check the power start relay. This is what turns on the compressor. I had same problem ( one of many) and the power start relay was bad.

You should be able to see the fan spinning if you look under the frige with a flashlight to the back or feel air flow (tissue paper helps) coming from underneath it. As for the center column, if you mean the divider area between sides, that being real hot means the compressor refrigerant is overheated. It should be warm to touch not hot. Sounds like your condensor fan is out or packed full of dust bunnies and not spinning. The compressor will overheat and "trip" the thermal overload on and off so you do need that cooling fan. All the underside of the frige needs to be clean and clear of hair, pet fuzz, etc. in order to cool properly. The fan is likely out of warranty but they are cheap and easy to replace by a homeowner.
