Knocking noise at idle

I have a 02 with 4.2 six. At idle with the air conditioning on thier is a knocking noise coming from passenger side front om motor. If you turn the air off the noise goes away. when you touch the accelerator the noise is gone. the only time it knocks is at idle. I have 142000 miles, and has been rattling for a while. I have installed a new idler pully and just put a new power steerinng pump on. I was disapointed nothing changed. I would like to know if you have ran accross this problem. thanks

This is AC compressor rattle, don't worry about it unless it is really loud, in that case replace the compressor.

Noise in the front lower passenger side

It sounds like your rotors are warped. Do you feel a pulsation in the brake pedal as it's happening? I really haven't seen ball joints or links go out on those cars.

When the ignition is on a knocking noise comes from under the dash on the passenger side

I have the same problem i think.
The noise is something to do with the air con inlet gate???
Q. is there a fuse to isolate this as the position of the problemis above the glove box and can only be accessed with the dash board out and that would be very expensive.

My 2000 XLT Explorer makes a 'knocking' noise somewhere in the front end which speeds up as I accelerate. It is loudest at about 50-60km/h and gets quieter from there up... I changed both wheel...

Hello, This could easily be the CV joints. You were in the vacinity of your problem when you changed the hubs. Although the front differential should be checked for gearlube level, the trans fluid is not going into your differential.

You can siphon out the excess trans fluid. The differential is in a floating mode without being engaged, but the CV joints can easily make noise while not being engaged.

I have had a number of clients with 4x4's swear they had problems with the front end. But many have written back to me and let me know thier problem was the front driveshaft U-joint. This is especially true for noises seeming to come from the passengers front side. As the front U-joint is dead center on the vehicle, it is to the right of the Driver so the driver thinks the noise is coming from the far right side.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you.

Strange raddling noise from front passenger side

if the noise only happens when the vehicle is in motion...check the front suspension. place the jack under lower control arm ,then get a bar and lift up on the tire..ball joint issues are well known in blazers and cause this condition. if it does the rattle noise when its idling and to op temp--could be the cat converter causing the noise on pass side directly under passenger seat. when cold, smack the cat with rubber mallet and if any rattle is present, cat should be replaced so it dont cause further damage .hope that was helpful !!

Knocking sound

maybe cv joints. check cv boots to see if torn or look out for grease marks in the area behind front wheel. This would be more clicking noise though and not banging.
