Monitor Problem My Acer AC 711 17" CRT Monitor which I have been using without problems for 5 years is now going into 'sleep' mode 3 seconds after switching on. At first it would correct itself if I switched the computer off and rebooted but now it just goes and stays orange. I can't change any settings because I can't get any display! Please, Please, help

I fixed the problem by acquiring a recovery disk that booted me into the bios screen and the screen came on. I then changed the settings, I still don't know why it happened in the first place though!

Thanks anyway though

Is there anyway that i can turn off my monitors sleep mode? it keeps going in sleep mode every 3 seconds when ever i turn on the power?

Press the MENU button, navigate with the arrow buttons to the OSD icon, from there navigate to the OSD Timeout icon, then change the timeout time.

My Acer monitor sleeps on red instead of amber. Is this a problem?

Different monitors have different indicator lights. If you do not expereince any problems with the monitor then it is ok

Keyboard and mouse not working and monitor going to sleep

HP Pavilion Slimline S3400f Desktop.
dont worry ALL PC end up like this,, all do.. sooner or later..
NO OS stated, XP"? never post without OS stated, or answer get 10x more harder, See? make it easy for the helper and get more help.....
no Monitor stated. (maker, CRT, LCD what?)
The monitor is not fibbing to you BTW, the PC did go dead or to sleep. seems its monitor monitor of some kind with DVI.

if the monitor works on other PCs then the monitor is not bad.
i Bet it works (old ones 2002, have a hidden deep internal sleep mode. and is not yours IM sure now) DVI IS THE ONLY CLUE THERE.
So PC is dead. this PC came with only VISTA new,
is it still VISTA?????????
HP has support on it still
here (carbon dated by me 2008, IIRC)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-slimline-s3400-desktop-pc-series/3688715/model/3688723

this year,? get all those files and books there backed up

what keyboard USB or wireless keyboard mouse
use wired USB keyboards if wireless the battery is dead. easy no?

now in VISTA, go to Control panel, click power
turn off all sleep modes and all hibernate modes
the turn off screen savers, if turned on , disktop . RC right click
in display settings or personalize, turn off , need login to come out of sleep or screen saver.
try a real keyboard, that has USB cable yet? be first thing to do.
always keep a real keyboard, handy,,,
batteries fail. in all wireless devices like this (inside them)

luck you desktops have lies DIM fails. there are many.

I don't know what OS you have but there is a power management setting you might want to check. Most likely the monitor is set to go quickly into sleep mode at inactivity. Alternately I don't know what monitor you have but it might be a backlight Issue as well

I put my acer aspire in sleep mode and now it doesnt turn on

Hi marvmom,

Have you tried draining the power of your computer? The easiest way to resolve this issue is by performing a power drain. Please follow the steps below.

1. Turn of your computer completely by pressing the power button for about 10 seconds.

2. Now, unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet.

3. Remove the battery from the system.

4. Press the power button for at least 15-20 seconds.

5. Put the battery back inside the system and plug the AC adapter.

6. Try to reboot and observe the computer.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have my acer p205h 20 inch monitor hooked up to my tobshiba laptop and it works great except it will not go into sleep mode when laptop goes into sleep mode the monitor goes to there is not signal check...

Unfortunately, this is a standard problem, as when your laptop goes into sleep mode, it shuts off power to the secondary monitor, without giving it the signal to go into sleep mode. You could try digging around your settings, but most likely you'll just need to turn off the monitor when you're not using it.

While I was on my computer today, it suddenly had a black screen with a message that the monitor was going to sleep. I tried rebooting but nothing seemed to work. I connected my monitor to another computer...

Hello, Kpruetz is almost impossible to find the issue without testing and measure your device because of that problem beginning in the computer, not in the monitor; like firmware, filters or other components, I sorry about that. If you have guaranty range you can contact the customer services, then they can solve the issue https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/?menu-id=Technical_Support

Compaq MV 540 (old dog monitors) DEAD 100% DEAD.
OSD dead too. it seems.
built in year 2000, its 17 years old, and you fix things that old
why> why do that, used LCD can be had for 20 bucks.
why slave over any relic CRT like this,,, for a musiem??
using the VGA cable
the monitor will go to sleep, lacking any PC sync lines Vert/horz
by design per VESA rules on that !
step one , use a PC.
set the PC up to do the max resolution on the CRT
some PC cant do that, (new PC)
im reading your users guide now, 1sec, google , hit.
first force the PC to 1024x768 resolution and 60 vert. refresh max.
now the CRT can work an not any of above number higher .
see? use working monitor to do that FIRST.

now plug in the vga, cable last. on the monitor under test.

power led means
green = power ok
amber or yellow are sleep or standby.
so that means, there is no sync.
or if the OSD works (does it>) turn the silly sleep timer off in the monitor. via OSD .

the operators guide, tells you to go to PC safe mode.
this mode sets reso real low. 800x600 and all monitors work there.
no sleep timer inside monitor i can find.,

lots of ways for any CRT to fail even the CRT itself
(loss of sweep)
loss of cathode video drive
the VGA card inside, can fail. killing dead all cathod drive.
the power supplies or regs inside can fail.
the HV can fail. 10,000 volts (dont touch it if long life is good)
some survive, or fly back hit head on wall and crush skull,
seen it and done it so,,, there you go.(ripped gash in arm once)
the 2nd anode is very high voltage, avoid it, and win,.
respect it.

HP Monitor goes into sleep mode

Problem of monitor sreen going black in 5-10 secs is generally dry solder joints around the inverter transformer on the inverter PCB.
