Question about Ultra Computers & Internet

1 Answer

RAID system I have a problem with making a RAID on my new iomega ultramax pro. It's the first time i've tried to do this so bare with me. I've set the drive on a mirrored RAID system  on the back of the drive and formatted the disk with disk utility, in macosx 10.4. Before i did this, both disks were working, but now i only see one disk in my disk utility, of 600 gb. It seems he can't read the other disk anymore.  How can i make sure the other disk is still there? And is functioning as a backup disk?  Thanks for helping me, Eline

You need to install software to make the added drive function.

Where can one buy a replacement pcb control board for a iomega 'ultramax plus' unit? My existing one has a damaged IC component at 'U4'....and possibly more elsewhere on the board.

No one sells what you're looking for. I'm assuming the drives were in a raid configuration which means you can't put them in an enclosure to get the data off. Your best bet is to purchase another unit and replace the drives. This thing is hella expensive. If you don't need the data you can get a different one bigger and cheaper.

Iomega Ultramax red light turns on at start.

It's probably the power supply. Iomega has been having lots of power cord failures. I had same problems and thought it was the drives until I did a internet search and saw lots of people having the same trouble. I called Iomega and they sent me a new cord. Problem fixed. It's the little black box that dies...

My Iomega Ultramax external hard drive continues has only one problem. This problem occurs every time I plug it into my computers. The hard drive at random times, disconnects itself without being told to....

It sounds like it is losing contact in the USB cable connecting it. If you have another USB cable, I would advise you to try it instead, it could be a problem with the cable. If the cable is not the issue, clean off the contacts in both the USB ports of the computer and the external hard drive itself to make sure there is nothing disrupting contact. Should this fail, it may be a faulty USB driver board in the enclosure, in which case you can contact Iomega and find out if this is a known issue. A cheap fix should the driver board be the issue would be to buy another enclosure and transfer the drive into the new enclosure. Enclosures can be purchased for under 20$. Should even a new enclosure not work, the logic board on the drive itself is malfunctioning and Iomega should be notified and will hopefully offer you a replacement.

Iomega UltraMax 1TB Triple Interface won't start

I would go on the web interface of the device. Find the IP address of the device and enter it into your browser. Maybe it has a setting for 'sleep' mode. Also, on rare occasions, the power adapter can go bad on them unexpectedly, not your fault, just a bad batch of hardware.

I have a 500GB hard drive that I am using with a Mac OS X 10.5. I have been working with iMovie file that are several GB in size and I can't save them onto my iOmega hard drive. I have tried starting a new...

First of all I would check what the file system is on your iOmega drive. If it is FAT32, then it will be unable to handle any files over 4GB in size.

If necessary, reformat it to a Mac friendly file system and retry.

If this doesn't help, please repost your problem including the exact text of any erro messages that you receive.

Hope this helps!

Ticking noise

Ticking noises are indicative of major hardware failures. As no HDD manufacturer actually warranties data, if you have important files on it your drive, you will likely need the help of a pro.

If you have all your data backed up elsewhere(including on the Mac), contact Iomega and have it replaced under warranty.

If you do need files recovered, let me know as well as your region and I will recommend a good location.
