Removing cd rom

The optical (CD) drive on your Acer laptop connects to the side of the device and is accessed via the underside of the computer.
If you are having problems with the optical drive on your laptop you should address it as soon as possible, and one thing you may need to do is remove it.
The good news is that even if you aren't particularly tech savvy, you'll find that the process of removing and replacing your optical drive is relatively easy.
Turn your Acer off and remove any power cables that may be attached to the side of the unit. Turn your Acer upside down.
Slide the battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer.

Locate the circular optical drive retaining screw on the underside of your laptop.
It is located just above the square WiFi compartment in the middle of the computer.

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and set it aside.
Grip the optical drive by its edge on the side of the computer and gently pull to remove it from the computer.
Slide a new optical drive into the computer, making sure the disk opening is facing out of the laptop.
Replace the optical drive screw.

Replace the CD Drive on an Acer Aspire 5000
The CD drive of the Acer Aspire 5000 is designed like most other laptop optical drives.
The CD drive is on the right-hand side of the computer and is attached with screws from the back of the case.
All you need to complete the task is a screwdriver.
To avoid electric shock or damage to the laptop, always ground your tools by touching them against a metal object like a table leg before using them on the computer.

Turn the Acer Aspire 5000 laptop off.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the power cord from the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Flip the laptop over so you are looking at the bottom of the case.
Slide the battery pack off the top of the case.
You'll see the CD drive on the left-hand side of the laptop when you are looking at the bottom of the case.

Unfasten the screws that are holding the CD drive onto the laptop with a screwdriver. Slide the drive out of the case.
Slide the new CD drive into the case and secure it with the screws.
Place the battery pack in the laptop and turn the computer back over so it is sitting on its base. Plug the power cord into the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Plug the other end of the cord into the electrical outlet.

Replace an optical drive

depending on model it is usual that there is a removal tab one one edge of your drive face. press this in and the removal tab should be visible then pull to remove the drive from the laptop. (do this when power is off)
order replacement of drive and insert into slot.

I hope this was useful.

I have Acer Extensa 4620 its dvd drive is not working where should i get repaired and how much will be it costs?

Fix it yourself heres how: purchase a replacment dvd drive heres an example of one you could purchase that will fit your model http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ACER-EXTENSA-6602-DVR-K15RA-DVD-RW-LAPTOP-DRIVE-7865_W0QQitemZ330344511659QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_LaptopAccessories_LaptopDrives?hash=item4cea1138ab#ht_1313wt_732
Most dvd drives from any acer extensa will fit your model with the relevent bracket, which you will already have connected to your broken one.
ok now veiw the service manual here Service Manual and go to page 57 chapter 3 (67/142) here you will find the section called removing the optical drive module. its really simple just follow the instructions and pictures carefully.
Hope this Helps! Please Rate!

Dvd drive removal

Hello There and Welcome to Fixya,

Your optical drive (dvd drive) is not a "Customer Replaceable Unit" (CRU) following Lenovo's service standards. What I recommend instead, is for you to contact their helpdesk through phone. Here's the link for their consumer support for further guidance :

Lenovo Support

It will provide you with options and more knowledge about your Y510.

I hope this helps, Thank you for using FixYa.

DVD/CD Bluray Stopped working

Since you are under warranty, I would suggest not trying to do anything yourself if your not sure of your capabilities. Get somebody tech savy to do either one of those options you mentioned. Remove Hard drive, or bad optical drive. Another solution is just back up all your data on a removable drive, and then you can just reinstall the data back when you get the drive back. Depending on how much data you have it shouldnt take long to get back to your settings. It would be a good idea to start backing up anyway if your concerned about losing data and settings since it is almost inevitable eventually in time.

Toshiba Satellite U305-S2808 DVD replacement?

Optical drive removal varies among notebooks. Some have quick-release gadgets, which may be on the bottom of the notebook or in the memory compartment. Some have screws that need to be removed from the notebook bottom. On my Satellite Pro 6000, it's on the bottom, aligned with the drive, but halfway to the other side of the case. If this is the case, pop it out. Get the model number off of the drive; you may have to replace it with the same one. While most optical drive chassis are standard, the drawer fronts are different, and not necessarily exchangeable.

Removing old/Installing new optical drive?

hi chris, best thing is to get hold of a manual but since NEC's support is not that good they don't provide them on their websites for download. but not to worry, generally you got 2 options from my experience i can confirm that the first one is the old drive is secured with a screw located in the back of the laptop underneath the drive itself if that's the case just unscrew it and release the old drive , the other option is you might need to strip the laptop down and unscrew the drive from inside the laptop i guarantee you these are the only ways manufacturers secure optical drives to laptops. hope this helps
